Will there be a sausage roll limit at Greggs?
I'm guessing what happens is, some Whitehall number cruncher calculates that cancelling free refills of soda drinks translates to an £xm future cost saving for the NHS. Thus they can write down the planned budget by this amount.

This would cost too much money.

That's just an 'OAP' card

They probably put one of those in the 'Welcome' bags that they give to the 'illegal' immigrants up there 🚣

Have you noticed how quiet the antiTrumpers have become, not a word from them ... except one apparently. The BBC have complimented him on a job well done ... that must have hurt!

After Rachel Reeves recent comments as to why she will have to increase taxes and reduce spending (note, it's "reduce spending" and not "austerity"!) I can't think of a more aptly named (non-sporting) thread on this forum. I wonder how she will 'speak away' the tax rises. The premise that she's taxing business and not voters treats the public as disrespectfully as Harold Wilson's 'It doesn't affect the pound in your pocket' speech (for those not of a certain age you can pick it up on a Google search). This thread was started because of the avalanche of Excuses coming from the new Labour Government as soon as they took Office. But unlike a natural avalanche this one hasn't petered out, it has gained volume and velocity as it rolls on, like a snowball rolling downhill. Last year she gave us a budget to fix the mess she claimed was left by the Conservatives so this year she will be giving us a budget to fix the mess created by her.

He/She arrived illegally on a small boat. Under the 1,000 in : 1 out arrangement with France he/she was returned to them. The immigration gang offered a "if you are returned we will send you across the Channel again guarantee". He/She has now landed again, illegally on a small boat ... you were told it would happen and it has. Why is it our overpaid PM and his band of Ministers and MPs didn't see it.

I swore to myself I would reduce posting on this thread but this Government seems to be able to create endless material.

Reeves should have had a 'lettings license'. She said she didn't realise the need (ignorance is not a defence for the common person but clearly she felt it is for her).
She writes to the PM apologising, confirming she was not aware.
The PM accepts her apology putting it down to being an unintended mistake and asks his standards adviser to urgently 'take a look' (it could not have been a full investigation in the time, they must have accepted Reeves' version of events.
At around midnight the standards adviser clears Reeves of intent and declares it as a simple mistake and the PM says "nothing to see here"
The letting agent puts their hand up saying it's all their fault, they should have applied for the required license but became distracted by a change of staff. (it is the landlord's responsibility to obtain the license, they cannot blame a third party.)
Emails come to light clearly advising that a license was required. (Interestingly it was her husband who revealed the emails!)
Reeves claims she was not aware of the emails when she originally wrote to the PM claiming it was a simple mistake.
The PM 'forgives' her a second time accepting that she was not aware of the emails when she claimed she did not know of the requirement of the license.

This raises questions
If it wasn't for the upcoming budget would she still be in post?
Would a member of the public have been so leniently treated?
How does this fit with the PM's mantra of "lawbreakers cannot be lawmakers"?
How many more MPs have covered up their own non-compliance?

Remember how they attacked the Conservatives for similar transgressions and promised to clean up politics! Maybe a more appropriate title for this thread would have been "Liars, Damn Liars and MPs"
