With life pictures I've definitely said Sovereign Class in front of Em Jay Kay.

Once the slow-mo was shown - not so much...

When exactly do you pounce in a case like this, @jamesedwards -?

I went the wrong way again. Fooled by the quirk of the angle there which occurs when one head is much higher than the other.

The similar photo from the other week stopped me going in as big as I might otherwise have, so thanks for small mercies!

Interesting photo print. 2 is the winner by a whisker on the main shot but looks a much clearer nose ahead in the mirror. Looks to me like the mirror was not lined up properly?

I always wondered if there is an edge in having a simple bit of software which records the video feed but lets you very quickly roll back x seconds and play in slow motion. There is always a change in the price when the feed plays this but always comes a good 5 seconds+ after, having to actually watch a race is too much hard work for me though.

Absolutely there would, but you'd have to be super-fast to beat the slo-mo. It's pretty quick these days and plenty can anticipate the result fairly accurately from early in the slo-mo before they even get to the line.

Absolutely there would, but you'd have to be super-fast to beat the slo-mo. It's pretty quick these days and plenty can anticipate the result fairly accurately from early in the slo-mo before they even get to the line.

I use OBS Studio (Free and open source) for screen recording, it's got a Replay Buffer mode so it can be continually capturing X seconds when it's not in full Record mode. Hitting stop saves it to a folder.... and you could maybe have a batch that's looking for a file and would launch a player. At least with that you'd only have a small vid file rather than one from all day. Bit still not as good as something that had a live timeslip feature.

But this reminds me is there a video player that has a frame fwd AND back, like a jog wheel? I use VLC but it doesn't do frame-by-frame backwards.

Open-source, free and cross-platform (Windows + Linux) so less worry about unexpected restrictions.
Built-in good support for many media formats, includes built-in codecs so minimal fuss.
Frame-by-frame support both forwards and backwards (the wiki notes “variable speed playback … and frame‐by‐frame playback, forwards or backwards”).
Simple, relatively clean interface (though maybe not the most modern) and less overwhelming than ultra-feature-rich players. Some users like that.
Good if you just want a reliable player for playback review of your captures (which is exactly your use-case).

Less likely to have bundled adware or weird extras (since open-source, community tracked).
