I've been playing about with cross-matching this afternoon thanks to the new flag in the latest BA update.

I always assumed cross-matching was switched off for horse racing place markets, but apparently not? How does cross-matching work when there is more than one winner?

I must be missing something. But if there's more than one winner, how can cross matching work?

You will get matched if your back bet will make up more than 200% for Top2 or 300% for Top3 places instead of the 100% calculation for winners market.

Cross matching gets switched off for horse races when they go in-play.

But for the Lingfield 13:50 there was a late withdrawal that was not removed by Betfair in time for the race. And when the race went into play Betfair left cross matching switched on throughout. Was this an error or standard practice for a late withdrawal? If so then why?

Cross matching remains on InPlay. If there is a late withdrawal, it goes off.

Aha, thanks! I had an error with my cross match flag set-up.

No wonder I've found it all so confusing!

Does this mean you're quids in whenever there is a late withdrawal and XM is switched off?

Depends what you are doing Liam :)

Here's the original link to the day that they switched it on (15 Years ago!):

Will we still all be doing this in another 15 years :D

Shame there was no streaming / data available from back then as it would be interesting to see how the markets behaved. Michael always talks about pre Xm being the ‘glory days’ for inplay although I hope no delay passive bets is better.

15 years? I plan on being well and truly retired by then

I'm still confused by some of the results I'm getting from the new XM flag.

I see occasional races where XM reports as being switched off even if there is no apparent reason. Most recently the 14:46 @ Chepstow today.

I'm not sure whether this is down to; Betfair XM management, an error with the BA XM flag, or user error.

Can anyone else confirm the XM status of the 14:46?

It's down to Betfair's management of the market usually. I can check the 14:46 as I log data on most races.

Yes please. It would help to know that it's not user error.

Also while most To Be Placed markets have XM, I'm finding that most (but not all) xTPB markets are switched off. eg for some reason Navan 13:42 2TBP and 4TBP market had XM switched on.

Some nights US horse races are all on, sometimes all off, and sometimes a mixbag. Tonight do far they are all switched off.
