Hey guys,

I have one newbie question, I will be very thankful for any answers. I am trying to learn trading in pre race trading in Horse race markets, but after some time I see that I am missing something important, I never see live pictures. How important is to have live pictures (television)? You see, I am living in place where is impossible to have these TV channels, like RacingUK, AtTheRace. I only can get them by online streaming with 10-15 sec delay, what cause me internet speed problems too. So it's possible to trade successfully without any live pictures? I know that it's very important to notice commentators voicing opinion, horse playing up etc and make trades based on that. But how much benefit you get from that in long term? Or I just need to find other edges based on something different than live pictures, and stop hesitating that I am missing VERY important thing. Thanks for any answers :)

Hi

As a relative newcomer to this myself you may wish to ignore what I think but here goes anyway.

I would say that the vast majority of the time you are not at a disadvantage in not having pictures. However there will be the odd time, when a horse plays up or a trainer or owner is interviewed and they say something useful, when having pictures and being able to react to what is shown is advantageous.

Personally I have a big bias towards Racing UK simply because their coverage is better. The other lot think nothing of going off for adverts only to come back and show an Irish race. Meanwhile the stuff we really want to see has started and we haven't been told by the channel which is supposed to be covering it.

In cases like the last mentioned you're probably at an advantage over someone keeping an eye on the tv for the start of the race.

Hope some of that helps and makes sense,

skytadas im in same situation as you. Was thinking to subscribe to Racing UK through internet, but that would be quite useless because i would not watch it anyway, so paying for 10-15s delayed commentators gossips and slowed internet speed wasnt for me. Instead i am listening to William Hill radio which works quite good, no visual information, but some comments about races and comments form race courses helps me. Oh, and its fun to listen them while trading, funny pals :)

PS they usualy tell when they are all in and race is about to begin..

You should be able to use Betfair live video? This will probably do? There is a link to that from the Bet Angel desktop.

It's perfectly possible to trade ok without pictures but it's helpful if you can see if the race is running late etc, that will help you.

If you are a non UK or non Irish resident you should still be able to get live "Racing UK" pictures and live "At The races" pictures to your TV via satellite. These pictures will be identical to those available in the UK/IRE and will not have a time lag when compared to IRE/UK pictures.

There are plenty of suppliers offering Sky subscription cards to non UK residents and all you need is a patched satellite receiver to be able to view Sky using a non Sky receiver.

Depending how far North, South or East of the UK you are in Europe will have a bearing on the dish size required.

As I trade from overseas I don’t have access to any racing channels. I therefore don’t use them and still I see myself as a relatively successful trader.

However, trading is about looking for indicators and acting on them. Indicators help predict and confirm price movement.

Indicators include WOM, volume, % Book, Trading Range etc. If one indicator is suggesting price movement in a certain direction and this is confirmed by more indicators then there is a high probability that the original indicator is right.

If by watching the racing channels you have more indicators to predict and confirm price movement then this can only be a good thing.

So in response to your question….You can still become a profitable trader without watching the buildup to a race BUT by learning how to use this extra information together with BetAngel information you might be able to become even more profitable.

Hope this helps
