That onside VAR decision just then proves beyond doubt that the offside detection system is flawed.

No dangling body parts, no variance in height, no possibility of deceptive angle playing tricks.

Just one foot planted on the floor vs another, with the added benefit of a clear natural line for comparison.

A clear 6 inches offside, yet goal given. Irrefutable proof that it's not fit for purpose.
Playing devil's advocate here ... can we be 100% sure that the line is at a precise 90 degrees? If not did VAR confirm the basis for it's decision?

As for a flawed system ... was it one of the new 'automatic' decisions or a human interpreting the picture ... if the latter it's not the system it's the human that's flawed (subject to my first point). But I understand your doubt James and you are right to question it. Frankly I prefer Cricket's use of it's version of VAR (unless it's in Australia!) ... it must be a clear and obvious error. There is no way that photo shows a clear and obvious error.

Going to be fascinating to see who is daft enough txo take the united interim manager job.
Maresco left due to interference and lack of support from the hierachy. Isn't that exactly the scene at untied?

Jose Mourinho said all this back in 2017.

Toxic corporate/hierearchy will always be a concern for a Manager when they take on the role, no reason Man Utd would be any different.

I've always said the Chairman/Board should be kicked out if they keep making "poor" decisions with the Managers. That way they would be more careful when making the appointments. They can still be an owner, but not influence things in any shape or form.

After Amorim's pre and post-match comments over the weekend I thought about backing him to be next manager out at 4.0.

Missed out, the same as I did with Maresca.

Not to self for next time - when the manager slags off the board, they'll be gone!

It seems to me this is a trend in football management.
Say stuff that makes your position untenable and walk away for a vacation with millions in the bank.

Thats not to say that EPL owners are angels. Glazers, Ashley, the West Ham lot. It's all quite toxic. I'm getting closer and closer to cancelling sky sport.

Good opportunities in the Next Man U Manager market this morning. Lots of dosh matched on Fletcher over a breadth of prices.

The Next Celtic Manager market has tiny volume in comparison. A conspicuous 200 quid matched on Kieran McKenna at 5.9. I tried to get the backer to move their money down, but someone else took the order in the interim. The same someone is trying to get their profit out at 14s just now.

I didn't even notice Nancy had been sacked!

Did he actually manage enough games to qualify as winner in the previous 'Next Celtic Manager' market?

Where do ManU go from here? Looking down the list I can't see anyone who would both want to come (within 10 games) and be wanted by the club.

Darren Fletcher value at 3.5 to last 10 games?.

Or perhaps Gareth Southgate at 19?

Xavi at 30?

Oops. I must be getting old. I just accidentally backed Xavi for £44 @ 3 instead of £3 @ 44!

Good job I wasn't backing something at 999/1.

James, Wilfried Nancy was in charge for only eight games. Although the last market was settled on Nancy because the club announced him as the permanent appointment (ha!) he was actually in charge for fewer days than Martin O’Neill as interim.

I have no idea what United will do now. Fletcher’s first game is against Burnley so perhaps a win and a temporary shortening of the price is possible. I’d be really surprised if he’s in charge for ten games.

Nae luck with Xavi. ☹️ Balls-ups are an inevitable hazard of trading. I blew 100 quid on the darts in November when my finger moved on the mouse without prior instruction from my brain.

I could see Fletcher as caretaker with a current club or International manager to come in once their season/World Cup duties are complete. That would be mid-March at earliest by which time Fletcher would have completed the required 10 games for payout.

Don't be naive Foxy ... the top man/woman never gets the sack, there's nobody above them to sack them and as the top person they can always find someone else to blame. It's not just football, it's life!
