Three precedents should have been set ...

1. the referee should have told all players except the penalty taker and the goalkeeper to leave the penalty area in the next 10 seconds or be booked and if they still don't leave then to be booked a second time (sent off)
2. When the Senegal players left the pitch the referee should have said the penalty will be taken in 10 seconds regardless of whether the Senegal players are on the pitch or not and the resulting goal would stand.
3. Senegal went on to win the cup, the award should now be withdrawn from them and awarded to Morocco.

Can you see a Rugby Union referee putting up with all that disregard for their authority?

The rugby referee example is the gold standard. The players have to respect the game/rules and the decision(s) made on the pitch.

In the Afcon final, the Senegal players failed the above dismally and should've been further penalised. During the game, those that left the field should all have been booked, any on a second yellow card, sent off. If not back on the pitch within 5 minutes, a 2nd yellow issued for all the players that remained on a single yellow card.

Yes, it would have been mayhem and lead to an abandoned game, and the cup being awarded to Morocco, then after the abandoned game, Senegal would not be allowed to compete in any internationals for the foreseeable...etc

The lesson they learn, is, you've guessed it, respect the game/rules and the decision(s) made on the pitch.

Actually, I agree. This should count as a natural position, but for whatever reason the current handball laws don't agree.

This type of ball to hand contact is not deemed a natural position 99 times out of 100. There's no consistency, and it's like they just make it up as they go along. It would be ok if it was a ref's split second decision but to reach that conclusion after 5 mins of video review is farcical.

VAR has overdelivered on expected negatives and underdelivered on promised positives. It's just awful, and ruining the game for the players and the fans.
