Hi,
Im not sure if this was covered elsewhere but occasionally I like to lay a short price horse right before the race takes places
Any suggestions on approaches to getting best lay price ? I.e. smallest price
Bit of open questions so happy to answer any questions.
Laying Short prices
I guess 2-3 minutes before the off?
Do you mean BSP when you say SP? I was off impression BSP was > price before the off?
Yes SP==BSP, BSP is basically the mid price (on average) so if you are taking a price just before the off its better to just take BSP (a few caveats)
However if you have an edge and can bet earlier bet before 2 minutes, at exactly the 2 minute mark there is a syndicate (v profitable) that dumps its position.

Interesting- as in the odds shorten? They are on the 'back' side of the bet? How do you know about this syndicate?LinusP wrote: ↑Fri Jan 30, 2026 8:53 amYes SP==BSP, BSP is basically the mid price (on average) so if you are taking a price just before the off its better to just take BSP (a few caveats)

It’s a small world, the odds will move towards a more accurate price, the earlier you can bet the better but it’s a balancing act between value and liquidity.Shergar6 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 30, 2026 6:13 pmInteresting- as in the odds shorten?
