I don't usually venture out at the weekend, and I can't remember the last time I was in a bookies, so I popped into my local when I was out and about this morning.

Not one single person in the shop!

Just one very bored guy behind the counter with non-stop reels of weird foreign and virtual dog races playing away to themselves on the screens. So sad. These places used to be a hive of activity on a saturday morning, full of punters enjoying a free brew while chewing the fat over the day's racing or the big live footy match.

A real British institution doomed to be lost forever. :(

To rub it in I put £20 in a FOBT and, no lie, walked out with £340 from one single £2 spin.

Probably wiped out their entire day's takings.

Young males are being very aggressively targeted by the likes of Coates (B365), Laddies and others. They are almost exclusively using app-based wagering. largely on football and wouldn't in many cases have the first clue how to complete a betting slip!

A sad sign of the internet age - much of the high street is now in decline, while online sales generally increase.
