Crazy gamble fails.

Took a look.

18 months ago, it was initially rated 106 running, in a Group 2. (Hugo Palmer trained)
Yesterday, rated 62 in a Class 6. (Stella Barclay/A.Culhane trained) - First ever run in a Class 6.

Reckon the jockey booking was seen as a positive, but the form book didn't support it in anyway.

The on-course market looked to have gone crazy, hedging their liabilties at any price available from 13/2 onwards. (I Am Maximus - esque)

Re-watched the race. Hold up tactics look favoured, but there will obviously be risks at getting a clear run. If I were being cynical, it's a way of getting the mark down from a unfavourable mark, but it can sour the horse's attitude.

If I were race planning, I'd find a Class 5 or Class 6 race on a course that favoured prominent runners and race it more prominently. It might appreciate having a clear view and enjoy its racing again. If so, it's on a great mark to go on a long winning sequence, like some recent flat handicappers have done.

I had a really odd experience betting in the 3.00 Bath today. I had a small bet on Dandyman Dan 5 mins before the start of the race. In the form guide is was forecast as 16/1 and Hills were showing it at 16s on their live show. I placed my bet and was matched at 23.0 which I assumed was good value. I was pleasantly surprised when Dandyman Dan won but was stunned to see that the SP was 40/1! The Betfair SP was 70.00.

How in the hell did I get matched at 23.0? This must be the firs.t time I remember ever backing an outsider on the exchange and getting a far worse price.

And to think some call it a mugs game.
