Affordability Checks etc
With Fawcett talking about the end of high stakes gambling I mistook this all to mean some sort of ban after losses of 1-2k... If passed, hopefully the increased checks won't mean mass account closures, probably just more deposit limits (and headaches) in most cases?
More like 5 years if we're lucky
Look how dead the forum already is, it's beyond boring... even Discord is less active, altho part of that is more people losing their edge from reports I'm getting but thats normal, but theres just no new people coming in anymore.. if anything the industry needs more channels like pinneaple whatever with clickbait titles of easy profit

10 years ago you could deposit £2k no problem even if you were a losing punter/trader, now you can’t even get more than £100 in even if you’re winning.
If prediction markets take off in UK then hopefully the BF exchange can grow that way, maybe even offer another chance to expand into the US at some stage.

It's unclear if that's any losses or is deposit related.
If i have a fat finger moment, and lose a couple of k (or a betfair crash/error resulting in a loss from open bets, or faulty market suspension etc), but have the balance to cover it, will they still need to do the checks.

I'd hazard a guess the emphasis will be put on the operator to make a judgement call based on the betting habits of the customer. If you have £5k in your account, built up over a period of 6 months, then in one day the red mist descends and you blow £4k, they would have a responsibility to act on your behalf, maybe enforce a cooling off period.Andriy wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2026 12:44 pmIt's unclear if that's any losses or is deposit related.

The deposit limitations are more or less in place, along with withdrawals, followed by a quick deposit trigger.
New customers also have to jump through hoops to get an account approved,. (that's the main issue, as some ain't gonna bother)
The forum here is still pretty busy. Maybe it's just not in the areas in which you're looking, but we track forum usage statistics so that we can plan for capacity or any other things, and it's doing OK. It's obviously quieter than it was sort of like five years ago, but not massively. Certain topics have thinned out a bit.Kai wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2026 11:12 pmMore like 5 years if we're lucky

But that said, we also monitor what's going on elsewhere, and we can see that other forums in the same space are completely stone-cold dead. They're not getting any posts at all, or maybe a handful over the course of a month.
I think the problem is there just isn't as much hype as there was around this sort of thing. For example, I had a fantastic year last year, but absolutely nobody is interested in talking about it. I approached so many different people ahead of Cheltenham about how I was going to win on all 28 races, and not a single person came back and showed any interest.
I approached all of these sites that claim to be about serious betting and giving you the best advice, and none of them were interested either. So I think your tongue-in-cheek comment about clickbait and Easy Profit may actually have some truth in it.
If you don't put things on a plate for people, they won't take it.

I reckon, in this space, they'd only take an interest when it's a "Schadenfreude" moment.
Gary Wiltshire became famous for going under after his Dettori 7 moment. It took many years for him to recover, but that's what's he's famous for.
People tend to only pitch in if they have condescending interest and feel superior in some way. You're a long-term winner, so they feel inferior.
If you pitched 28 straight losses at Cheltenham, they'd interview you in a heart beat.

To a casual punter, I think it's more about prospects looking a lot dimmer these days, hence the hype and clickbait stuff wearing thin. Bookies clamping everything down, more quants/bots taking the easy pickings on BF etc.
Oh the gloom and doom!
I notice your FB posts get very little engagement, PeterEuler wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2026 5:58 pmThe forum here is still pretty busy. Not sure if people are less interested in trading these days, and whether that is reflected in BA subscriptions also being down?
From a personal perspective, I used to be a regular poster here 10 years ago. But, I fell out with a couple of posters and then discovered Twitter, so fell away from the forum.
I've fallen out of love with that platform too, so rarely tweet these days. In fact, I'm just bored of Social Media in general, so perhaps there's many others like me, who just can't be arsed to engage anymore
