Anyone's thoughts on what its like to be a sports trader. I would like to give it a go, although it seems a solitary lifestyle, the idea of being totally immersed in sport and making money from it seems like a dream.

I'm afraid the introduction of the 60% premium charge by betfair has killed off the long term profitability of being a sports trader.

You can do it for maybe 3-4 years and then its pretty much over as a full time income. I would advise someone to spend those 5 years doing something they can use long term rather than spending it on sports trading.

What is the criteria to qualify for the premium charge?

Currently you need to earn £250k before you reach the higher rate charges.

this was a great thread from some time ago where people shared their experiences on a trader's life...

Forgive me Super, I meant no disrespect was just completely enthralled by the thread, most informative. One thing that would worry me would be the day to day social contact. I can understand where mugsgame is coming from.

Hi All,
I am quite suprized that his older thread has not prompted a new wave of comment, given that it contains some really interesting stuff for us newish recruits to BA...

I wonder whether we should have a sticky thread in each topic where we nominate / promote must read threads?

a few sticky threads in each category would be a good idea for the best threads.
