England were very lucky not to concede a penalty when Konsa brought down Adu. It was a desperate tackle and I can't understand why the Ghanaian players didn't complain to the ref about it. ⚽️🥅
Not 100% sure but the commentator seemed to imply it was offside prior to the possible foul

I could be wrong though, I was in a busy pub so hard to concentrate

What exactly does WOKE mean ,I have never been able to figure that one out :?
Tico
It simply used to mean being aware of social injustices like racism or inequality etc, but has since been weaponized into a political buzzword and has practically turned into a meme

Memes are basically modern digital equivalents of political cartoons or relatable inside jokes that get endlessly remixed and spammed across the internets to roast people or cope with life

So it's more of a concept rather than an abbreviation ?

Exactly, the word literally comes from the word "wake" to metaphorically mean your eyes are open to reality instead of being "asleep" to the various grave injustices

Grave injustices like the US women's team demanding the same astronomical wages as the men's team :)

... Christina Unkel thinks it should have been a penalty

I've been struggling with this recently.

It used to mean "being aware of social inequality".

These days to me it means more like "to pander to politically correct ideals, especially when motivated by a shallow attempt to signal virtue or exaggerated outrage".

Origins go back to the 1920s and 30s. Marcus Garvey used it urging people to "wake up" to injustice and
Blues legend Lead Belly used the phrase "stay woke" in his 1938 song about the Scottsboro Boys, advising his community to remain vigilant against racial violence in Alabama. Cropped up again in the 1960s Civil Rights era. Some people now use it in a derogatory way for some reason.

Just discovered it to be a right wing thing ,a sort of derogatory remark against the left.According to one definition WOKE 'has been sublimated into right wing thinking and is a knee jerk response to anyone who wants to see social justice'
...so the right wing are jealous that the left have WOKE up
There is a suttle irony here somewhere

For me, I feel like it's morphing away from specifically "right wing vs left wing" terminology now. It's quite possible to be right wing and still display "woke" behaviours.

It's interesting how words and meanings can change so significantly over time.

England should take a leaf out of Colombia's book. No hanging around waiting for the defence to get organised. Best team performance I've seen tbh. At 70s they're not a bad bet.

... And 3 Palace players on 2 goals each for their countries.

It's a massive cultural overreaction in a nutshell

Just like we see in the markets every day, it got pushed far from its fundamental value

Indeed. I was only debating the original meanings of 'gay' and 'queer' the other day, when used by Tolkien in his seminal piece, Lord of the Rings.
