.... ah so it doesn't return any data relating to the actual distance covered by each horse? Obviously those on the rails on a turning track will cover much less distance than those running away from the rails?

You could try doing something with speed.

speed = distance / time.

Av speed and time are known TPD variables from which you can calculate distance. Don't know how accurate this would be.
