There's a market in big games for 'cards sending off?'. You can detect if this market closes before the end of the game you know a red has occurred?

On a side note I would like to say that BA and Guardian is an awesome piece of technology. The time it takes me to develop a strategy using the API was long and arduous - it might take several days to try something out, only to discover it was a non-starter and I was back to square one. With Guardian I can knock something up in a matter of minutes - try it out and determine if it's got legs. I think what Peter Webb has created (with his team) is a miracle.

But the advantage of the api is being able to run accurate simulations on years of data, and obtaining better execution stats, so the additional effort is generally well spent. As usual, horses for courses.

I agree. The API usually has a steeper learning curve, but once everything is set up, it gives you much more flexibility than most visual tools. Being able to backtest over large datasets and collect detailed execution metrics is a huge advantage, especially if you're refining strategies over time. It definitely takes more effort upfront, but for anyone serious about systematic trading, that investment in time often pays off.
