Hi all,
I'm looking for historical in-play odds data for football. I'd like prices during the match, not just closing odds, for a few seasons and the main European leagues. Second-half markets (over 0.5 goals, team to score) would be a big plus.
Betfair's historical data would be ideal, but I can't open an account there. Does anyone know another way to get it, or a good alternative?
I've seen TotalCorner, BetsAPI and The Odds API mentioned, but I don't know how good their in-play data is. Has anyone used them? I'm happy to pay for good quality.
Thanks!
Betfair Historical Data from non-UK: any way to access it? And what are the alternatives?
Hello, here are some I have used in the past: General-purpose APIs (results, fixtures, tables, some stats)
football-data.org: A simple, well-documented API. The free tier covers the top European leagues with results, fixtures, and standings, and paid tiers add more competitions and depth. It is a good first API to learn on.
API-Football (api-sports.io): Very broad coverage of several hundred leagues, with fixtures, lineups, events, player stats, and pre-match odds. It has a small free daily allowance, and how far back the history goes depends on the plan.
Sportmonks: Similar breadth to API-Football, with detailed stats, odds, and expected goals (xG) as add-ons. It has a limited free plan and is otherwise paid.
TheSportsDB: Community-maintained and free for basic use. It is good for results and team metadata but thin on detailed stats.
OpenLigaDB: Free with no key needed, but it mainly covers German football.
Betting odds and exchange data
Betfair Historical Data service: Betfair’s own archive of exchange prices, downloadable through an API or as files. The Basic tier (roughly one-minute snapshots) is free, while Advanced and Pro (down to tick-by-tick with ladder depth) are paid. This is the only source of real historical Betfair exchange prices, so it is the one that matters for exchange trading.
Betfair Exchange API: The live API. It doesn’t serve old price history, but you can record the stream yourself to build your own archive going forward.
The Odds API: Bookmaker odds across many firms. Historical odds snapshots are available on paid plans.
football-data.co.uk: Not strictly an API, but free CSV files at predictable web addresses that a script can download automatically. It has decades of results plus closing bookmaker odds for the main European leagues, and it is the standard free source for backtesting. If you can't use Betfair Exchange then many of the above use Bet 365 prices.
