Hi all, quick heads up. OpenAI changed its usage policy about a year ago, and “real money gambling” is now on the list of things ChatGPT isn’t supposed to be used for. It doesn’t look like they’re really enforcing it yet, but that could change, and then it might just start refusing Betfair and betting questions.
Thought it was worth knowing now rather than getting caught out months or years down the line when you rely on it. Good news is the alternatives don’t seem to have this restriction.
Has anyone had to switch from ChatGPT yet?
ChatGPT and gambling restriction
I'm not sure I'd be too worried about this just yet.
There's quite a difference between asking ChatGPT what to back in the 3:30 and asking it to write some C# to analyse Betfair data. If OpenAI can't tell the difference, that says more about their implementation than anything else.
I'd be more concerned about it confidently giving you a load of rubbish than refusing to answer. At least with a refusal you know where you stand.
And I wouldn't assume the alternatives won't end up with similar restrictions.

They can't enforce it because gpt doesn't know what code it hasn't seen is doing. Even if you were using 'Computer Use' and letting it drive BA, it wouldn't know if you're in live or practice mode.
It's just a warning not something it can have any hard restriction on.

I haven't bothered with Computer Use, pywinauto works just fine. I let it create and check the .baf files directly in BA. It seems to know what it's doing, although the first four versions might suggest otherwise.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2026 2:46 pmThey can't enforce it because gpt doesn't know what code it hasn't seen is doing. Have you ever let it play on the ladder? I haven't personally but I've seen it used to play games.Trader724 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2026 3:56 pmI haven't bothered with Computer Use, pywinauto works just fine. Haven’t tried it, don’t really see the point. It’s probably restricted anyway.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2026 4:37 pmHave you ever let it play on the ladder?
