what is the good time to go into a race

I am new and just started today. I seleted a race market,the price were all stable, not moving at all. In pratice mode, a place a back at odd of 2, and then all of a sudden the price moved up, which was't what i wanted. Anyone tell me what is the right time to make for a bet? and when the market suspended, how long it will goto inplay? and also if i make back bet, and the the market goto the other direction, is there a way to minnise lost?
