We're far too liberal as a society.
Take the way we responded to the riots. Policians and police chiefs were running around like headless chickens, totally clueless about how to proceed, and frightened of doing anything that might upset the Guardian or the BBC.
What David Cameron should have said to the police is 'Do whatever is necessary to bring these riots to an end immediately. If you're not willing to do so, that's fine - I'll bring in the army'.

Pupils should learn about gambling, says charity
Up till a moment ago, I thought my housemate Ian was working as a teacher. He's just told me that he quit his job, following an incident with a pupil.
The pupil - a big 16 year lad - threw a chair at Ian's head. Ian responded by pinning him against the wall by his neck to restrain him. The lads' parents, who had previously taken no interest in their son's education (and had previously even hung up on Ian when he phoned them about their son), kicked up a fuss - no doubt with a compensation claim in mind!
Although the woolly liberals on the education board who investigated Ian's behaviour accepted he acted in self-defence, questions were raised about whether he acted appropropriately. As a result, Ian resigned from his job, out of disgust.
I'd love to know how the people who judged him would have responded to someone throwing a chair at their head!
Just thought I'd get that out of my system, as it's angered me. The so-called liberal intelligentsia in this country have a lot to answer for...
