Hi,
Is it possible to connect and then control a remote PC that is running BetAngel linked to Excel using a smartphone?
In other words, could a "courtsider" be present at an event and be connected to their home/office PC and run BetAngel/Excel normally, or, are there issues/risks?

Yes this is possible. I use the remote VPS from Bet Angel with an iPhone 4. But basically if your phone has a remote client app available for it then you can.
Check out the VPS page - http://www.betangel.com/vps/
Regarding the risks, this is discussed here - viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4178

Thanks for the reply and the links, very interesting.
BetAngel recommend their VPS and if using an iPhone, the iTapRDP app from iTunes store. The iTapRDP is the remote desktop connectivity application that allows an iPhone to access the BetAngle VPS.
There seems no reason why the iTapRDP remote desktop app could not be used on an iPhone to connect to a users home/office PC that is running BetAngel/Excel for transaction placement. There may be a disadvantage in the speed of connection to the Betfair servers with the home/office setup when compared with the claimed rapid connectivity of the VPS.
Has anyone actually tried this out courtsiding with an iPhone or similar device connecting to the BetAngel VPS/excel or their home/office PC with BetAngel/Excel?

Sure someone has but the Courtsiders these days are far more advanced than this as I understand it and have been for years.dogform wrote:Has anyone actually tried this out courtsiding with an iPhone or similar device connecting to the BetAngel VPS/excel or their home/office PC with BetAngel/Excel?
Andy,
Would you please be able to elaborate re the sophisitcation?
The only more advanced approaches I can think of at the moment would be:
1. Custom scripts written in java or similar that interact directly with the Betfair API from a mobile device?
2. Netbook with wider range of coding languages and the opportunity to code in linux for direct interaction using custom scripts with the Betfair API.
3. Mobile device accessing remote server running custom scripts, possibly VPS with fast access to Betfair servers.
Please add to the list if you care to share.

i tried this with an iphone 4 using teamweaver to remote control my laptop but someone was far quicker.Even tried on a few games that were not televised was still being beaten easily. I did notice several people using bluetooth headsets rather discreetly

Id imagine courtsiders can simply rent a corporate box and use computers. Im sure Bury vs Oldham you could easily get a box, wifi and a meal for 100quid!

Jimwah, maybe it was betfair who was quicker. The inplay delay could work in their favour when the event is not suspended.
The five second delay makes it very difficult to get your bet matched even if you are courtside.I even had my bets primed preemptively and placed before the point had been decided and before the umpire could update the scoreboard on a game that was not televised.Still couldnt get my bet matched in time!I only managed to make a significant amount when I saw a player fall and injure herself. However i did notice people communicating each and every point either to someone placing bets or perhaps just to update the score.
