As someone who regards Andy Cole as useless despite his 1:2 goals to game ratio, you must be a hard man to impress, but most of the nation was stunned by an amazing free kick scored under tremendous pressure! :lol:

In 2004, Greece won a minor trophy called the UEFA European Football Championship, so maybe you're underestimating them... ;)

No, that ugly c**t - for his looks, nah. That's what I was agreeing with - he's not good looking.

Not his skills either, unless you think those teams are dopey as well. He sells posters etc etc. He makes money, I have no idea why.

I disagree - Beckham is extremely good looking!

Ugly footballers, however talented, don't generally get offered million pound modelling contracts year after year...

I bet you won't see Carlos Tevez appearing topless in an aftershave advert this Xmas! :lol:

Yes, but this match was in 2001, when they were rubbish. David Beckham played like a school boy - chasing the ball all over the pitch. A terrible performance. If the match hadn't gone to 193 minutes we would have lost... :lol: :lol: :lol:

It's about more than PR.

David Seaman, in his heyday, could have had Max Clifford working around the clock for him, but even if he'd changed his name by deed poll, he wouldn't have made a fraction of Beckham's money from sponsorship! :lol:

After the 1998 World Cup sending off, he was one of the most hated men in Britain.

since when has black not been a colour...

hansen whom i dont particularly like, was praising black footballers
and he ends up apologising for it...
so now black,n and coloured are taboo,what are we to say or was he supposed to say to get his meaning across...

i have no issue with people referring to me as white, a honkey etc...

maybe i should insist they refer to me as "formerly known as the racist oppresors, which I had no part in"

whilst im at it on this , since when has mixed race been black sorry coloured sorry people of non traditional european heritage..

obamas mother is white, so hes not black, unless you want to deny his mother her part in his heritage, which seems a touch unfair to the woman who brought him up largly alone.

I didn't even realise that "coloured" was no longer politically acceptable, I just thought it was a bit old-fashioned.

Black people aren't black anyway, they're brown (and white people are light brown or pink!).

The word black has many negative connotations (black-hearted, blacklist, black mark, black mood, black market, black propaganda, blackmail, black sheep, blackball, black death, black Monday, Wednesday, Friday) - it surprises me that they haven't come up with something better.

People who find particular words offensive need to get a grip! And the PC brigade, along with certain parts of the media, do them no favours by reinforcing their sense of injustice!

Offensiveness is in the ear of the beholder. Some people will have found Hansen's language offensive. Other people will find the liberal codswallop frequently touted on Newsnight offensive. You can't please all the people all the time, and nor should you try to...

And I suspect that a lot of racism stems from people's resentment of the thought police.
