Can't disagree more. Some forums descend into a cesspit of abuse because of the immature actions and posts of a minority. The only way to stop this is to close a thread. The best forums do this and I belong to a few.

Like everything else its the few that spoil it for the many.

At least the thread was not deleted.

I dont think it was immature or a cesspit of abuse.

When you are starting out it can seem at times that the market is geared against you, like somebody is looking over your shoulder just waiting for you to click in one direction or another. I think that's the source of some frustration and sentiment that something unusual is going on. I think that may also drive other similar feelings.

The quicker you put that to the back of your mind and focus on what is actually really happening the faster you will get to the next stage IMHO.

The question is do you wait until it has reached that level - then act?

If the thread has gone off topic and reached the stage of school-yard 'handbags' then perhaps that is the time to knock the thread on the head or at least try to calm things down?

The price we pay for having the freedom to say what we like behind the anonymity of the forum username is that some people use this to demonstrate their immaturity, social awkwardness and disregard for how to behave in a civilised manner. I would never say on this forum what I wouldn't say to someone if I walked into a pub.

I'm all for debate. But throwing around abuse like a hormonal teenager just makes me feel sorry for the author of the posts who may have personal and social problems that require help.

Market trader - I guess working in Burma for the past many years has put me out of touch with how politically correct the UK has become and at the same time the suppression of the people in Burma has made me against people stopping freedom of speech! haha

Back to a serious note

When i brought up these questions in the past I didnt get much response except from Hgodden who agreed that he believed that there was a dictatorship or higherarchy (cant remember for sure what he said). Anyone else agree with this assessment especially through the winter months?

I don't think the UK people are politically correct - I don't think your average man/woman in the street has much time for the thought crime brigade.

But unfortunately, the government, the civil service and the media (including our politically neutral state broadcaster) are obsessed with it, so sadly it's here to stay...

Why don't you re-raise that thread and discuss it there? This thread has descended in the the paranoia and mud slinging that the other thread went to. It's all a bit pointless really and groundless in its conjecture. It's all a bit weird to be honest.

Im liking the pub example brought up by "market trader" and agree some handbag merchants cant stand a contrary view in any area of life, im pleased people took note of the accurate comparison of (a ficticious pub to the forum) i put up on the now sadly deceased thread.

if there is a dictatorship, who is dictating to who?

if there is a hierarchy in what sense other than the amount of posts each individual as posted?

i agree some posters carry more weight (with me at least) than others depending on the subject they are posting about for example; there are a couple who's form reading is very good, one of whom as a truly wonderful track record on the grand nat, so i naturally take note of what they say regarding form. also the creator of this software, i think it would be strange not to give his post's some serious weight.

personally i don't think the above constitutes a hierarchy of any kind, let alone something as heavy as a dictatorship.

Tony -

I think the dictatorship that was being discussed was one in the market, not in the forum.

Some people believe that there's a food chain in the market, and if you're towards the bottom of the food chain and put money in the market, then the big boys will move the market against you and force you to close your trade for a loss.

What is all this shit?

In 3 years of being on this forum, I've never known anybody try to stitch others up, or deliberately give bad advice.

Peter is right, some threads have been discussed many times before. I stopped PM's due to the avalanche of requests for help. I haven't got the time, and quite frankly it took many years of hard work to be where I am now, so with BF reducing everybody's edge wherever possible, I'm being a bit more cagey with specific advice.

BA is an excellent trading tool. However, annual subscription doesn't include free advice on strategies. If there's no reply to your technical requests, contact support, they are very helpful.

If this forum is going to descend into playground arguments, especially with regards to one particular user, then I'm happy to not bother posting at all in the future, I'm far too busy for that bollox

If pointless, petty arguments is your bag, then get married......you'll love it!

Re : money in the market

I'd actually argue that the market is more favourable for smaller players. If you increase stakes you tend to lessen the chance of a successful trade, so for years I've had to reduce stakes to ensure I can still get a trade through at a reasonably high strike rate. If I don't keep stakes to a sensible level my expectancy soon turns negative.

As for lack of discussion on manipulation, there is a thread here, it was started in 2009 and went on for 25 pages: -

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=770&start=240&hilit=farcical

This is what I was saying earlier in this thread, loads of really good discussion and data has taken place in the past but it's just been lost now the forum is much busier.

would it not be possible to have new category for useful/interesting posts from all the various category's over the years lumped in there but as read only.

if anyone reading one of these for the first time then as a question or comment they would have to hunt it out from its original catorgory and resurrect it?
