I agree. I've spent a lot of the last decade shuffling backwards and forwards between Europe and America and, for all their flaws, they have absolutely the right attitude to success and failure. Nobody chastises you for trying and failing in the US and you are admired for getting off your butt and making something happen. It engenders a culture where people just keep on trying to do new things. Loads fail, but it doesn't matter when the successful experiments break through.

Maybe Boris should go a little lower down the list of young entrepreneurs http://www.retireat21.com/top-young-entrepreneurs to number 2 and find a Brit Andrew Gower and reap praise on him instead of saying how great America is. Its also wise to remember that its the boom or bust mentality of the US that has pretty much got the world into the mess it is currently in.

I do however agree in general with the article and Peters comments that usually we are not encouraged to follow our dreams in the UK. If we were, then a lot of the people claiming benefits who say their are no jobs, would probably wake up in the morning and try and buy something and sell it at a profit rather than taking handouts.

There are some interesting young people on the list of young entrepreneurs. The one that caught my eye was Mozilla at 22 years of age it would have meant he first started the project at 8 years old! Beats any paper round i ever had.
