I'm not currently using a VPS but the error you mention could be a rejection due to a UK IP address. Is this a flash based player you are using?
When you connect it will perform a Geocheck and if your IP is outside of their permitted zone the connection will be rejected.
Having said that, it is usually video content that uses Geocheck OR a radio transmission for a live event where copyright issues deny transmission outside of the host broadcaster's country. What were you trying to listen to?

I just did some checking and sure enough it is a Geocheck issue. The message is a rejection of your IP address, basically you have to be in Oz 
However, being the devious sod that I am
there is a very simple workaround to allow you to listen to the cricket...I guess you wanted to listen to that sport event or perhaps another?
Go to http://www.aussieproxy.info/ and in the URL box enter http://www.abc.net.au/news/sport/
That will open the correct website and then you will be able to listen live by clicking the appropriate link. If you get issues because you have a 64 bit OS then download FREE real player and register it. Then click the ACC+ icon which will open the Real Player and bingo, you can listen to whatever you like

I tested it and it's slower than Sky. They are about 1 ball behind.
