Hi guys,

New to the forum here - have been lurking and reading as much as I can to absorb much delicious knowledge. Not got a lot of spare time but looking in to trading on Betfair as a distraction/extra income etc.

At any rate, I've had a nose around and it's got me wondering: how many traders do you think there are on the markets at any one time? How many are just normal punters?

I wonder because I was thinking about how the brass at Betfair really feel towards sports traders: surely traders pump decent liquidity into the markets allowing for matched bets for the average punter... but then the damned profiteering of traders means money gets taken OUT of the exchange and doesn't get a commission.

I know the premium charge etc would imply they don't like it, but how else would their markets be so efficient?

Thoughts? Are you guys baddies or goodies?

Sure we were goodies when there was no liquidity and nobody wanted to punt on exchanges in the early days. But Betfair seems to think we are too smart nowadays!

If Betfair were a true exchange then all liquidity would be good. The only reason they dump people into the 'bad customer' category is because they are more like a normal bookmaker now than an exchange.
