During the 4th at Doomben today the race caller called the favourite What About Me as the outsider World by Night.
Needless to say the favourite won and World By Night was match as low as 1.01 in running despite being out the back of the field and never improving.
I'm curious as to how this can happen.
Is it common practice for people to bet blindly In Play?

The thing I found most surprising was the fact he was calling World By Night twice in the run and never once called the favourite.
As well as that one wore red silks and the other green.
Unfortunately I was not alert enough to take advantage of the situation.

I think the biggest howler was Myopic Mike Cattermole at Newbury in December 2007. The leading horse was Khyber Kim at that time trained by Nicky Henderson and ridden by Mick Fitzgerald. The latter has a particular riding style and you can spot him a mile off. That day most people did but Myopic Mike didn't!
He was so carried away extolling the virtues of owner trainer rider Mr M Lurcock on Levantine who wore similar red colours that he called this horse as the winner/likely winner. I was watching the race and started to question my race reading skills because I was sure it was a Khyber Kim and Mick Fitzgerald. I was right and Levantine actually fell at the 2nd last hurdle!
There was carnage on the exchanges as Levantine was 200+ and it went down to around 2.10 in running on the win market and thousands were matched at 1.01 on the place market!! You will also notice they no longer allow access to the race video on the Racing Post website.
