Hi Guys!

Am a total newbie at this (Betangel) Hoping you all might point me in the direction of some good reading covering the basics? (not the userguide)

My question is that I had closed out a position by backing at 4 and then laying for less, then greening to show zero profit all round, except for the horse I bet on, which would net me 10p (big spender!)

The horse then lost, and I lost the £2 stake.

Thinking about this, I'd assume it was because the lay bets needed to green were so very small and diparate. Is this correct?

I would like to be 100% clear on this, as BA seemed to show I had locked in a no-lose situation.

I'd really like to get into using BA as a fun hobby, and was hoping some of the old hands around here might wanna help me out/take me under their wing for a week or so.

I'm generally quite sharp, and I'm hoping to make inroads into my new hobby in my weeks trial. (I have a week off work) If it goes well I'll take the plunge and stick with you guys for a while longer.

My aim is to have a simple excel bot up and running in a week. Not sure if this is unrealistic?

So yeah, hello to everyone out there. Any beginner advice appreciated. Feel free to PM me if you want.

(I have watched nearly all of the Youtube vids (great voice btw!) and I'm reading the manual right now)

Thanks for such a great site, and a very interesting betting niche.

Hi Mickey,
Don't know what went wrong with the greening. If you back at 4 for a stake of 2 and then lay with greening the stake will be bigger than 2.
The software will get around the stake size if it is under the minimum bet amount.
If it happens again check the LOG to see if the bet went through or was rejected or was unmatched.

Cheers.

Thanks Shamrock!

Seems I had clicked greenup, but not then clicked the bet suare to actually green. (oops hahaha)

Really loving BA. Got a couple of questions about what I've seen so far.

* The volume on US nags seems to be all within a little while of the start. Can I assume this is basically all other traders/bots out there?

* Is there a way to keep the runners in order? (they seem to jump around a lot)

Anyone got any suggestions on how to approach BA - the sheer number of options is a bit confusing.

I guess a good plan is to start at something and get good at it. Looking to scalp horseraces just before the off? - Any issues with this plan for a newbie?

Any other comments/advice gratefully appreciated.

Hi Mickey Love.

Firstly, welcome aboard.

RE: USA Racing - Always trade with pictures. They have a bad habit of always being multiple minutes late and then they might all of a sudden jump 10 or so minutes early.

Re: Keeping runners in Order, you might be better suited sorting runners in saddlecloth order.

RE: Suggestions on how to approach BA - I would suggest you master a single method first. For scalping, perhaps the Ladder would best suit you. If you are perhaps looking for larger swings the One Click screen should suffice.

RE: Best advice - You are the trademans and BA is your tool kit. Learn to use it wisely and enjoy the journey.

Thanks so much guys!

I like the tradesman comparison a lot.

Been scalping on the ladder, its really exciting.

I have a couple more questions,

X Back/Lay at X - Entirely unmatched when it hit the market...

This scares me a little. How do I know exactly when my money is gone, and when it's pending. (Is it if I dont see my £2 in the outer column?)

What do the colours mean on the ladder screen, I see they seem to indicate recently matched? - But what exactly do they mean? - Do they preempt a price movement?

Can I green up between two selections? - I traded on one horse, and greened a profit. But this particular race was the famed 'two horse race' with two hourses priced around 2. (Ideally I'd have chosen to green out between these two - does that make sense?)

I hope it's ok - but I pasted the trades I recently made on one horse in the 1410. Can anyone see me doing anything glaringly wrong? (is my volume of trades too low?) Using the ladder - all manual clicking.

Sorry to ask so many questions in one thread, didn't want to clutter up the board.

Thanks again!
