can someone please tell me why the former duke of wellingtons regiment now after re-organisation the 3rd batallion yorks, is based in Warminster - Wiltshire.
bbc news carried news footage live from warminster!!!!
i cant see how that can in anyway be called yorks...

it would seem the yorkshire regiment was formed from a re-org of the infantry. comprises of 4 battalions. 3rd battalion is barracked at warminster. their regimental hq is in york.

see link http://www.army.mod.uk/infantry/regiments/10005.aspx

its such a waste of life's. my sympathy to their families and friend's

their main recruitment area is yorkshire.
they are an armoured infantry battalion, part of 12th Mechanized Brigade. cant really practice driving tanks/armoured carriers around york . the army use the tank ranges around salisbury plain. better to have your armoured battalions near to where they can train.

thats b/s what about catterick barracks, and the vale of york is very flat, 5 lads from Yorkshire are killed and the news coverage is from Wiltshire, i find that insulting to Yorkshire and to the lads.
