I don't bother too much with automation but this week I have been having my usual fun with the in-running markets. I use nothing more than offsets really but a few times this week I have seen some strange results.

The weirdest one came today where I manually laid Red Rocco for £100 at an average of 1.96 in running. I had placed my closing order manually at 3.5 as my reading of the race suggested that he would be challenged by Find a Key who to my eyes was travelling better.

Sure enough the price started to drift out and it hit a high well above my order at 3.5. You can imagine my  when I wasn't matched for a single penny and I was facing an unwelcome and unnecessary loss. I quickly managed to lay both horses at low prices but I simply lessened the liability, I still lost on the race.

I have seen this happen a few times of late and I cannot understand what is happening. I contacted Betfair and they simply told me it wasn't possible :? :? Really helpful as ever. I told the Muppet on the phone it was possible and it had happened and I had the time of the bet etc to prove it. He put me on hold and then said they would investigate and get back to me.

I will not be holding my breath whilst awaiting their reply!

Anyone else noticed this?

Hi Jolly,

My automation has placed literally thousands of In-Play bets over the past two years (including for large amounts). This has never happened to me once.

dont do inrunning so i would not know but, is it a case of the api mucking about, ie flashing up false price's, strobing etc, as it often does on sturday's when it goes tits up.

No I looked at that mate, there was actual money matched so I was slightly shocked to say the least. I have seen it before but it seemed to have stopped until this week.

Have you consider XM being the cause? Could the money that showed as matching on the horse actually have been matched elsewhere and because their orders were in the market before your order they got matched first?

Not time to think the logic of that through now but thought I would put it forward. This topic has been on the forum before and I think we figured it out that time but not 100% sure we did. Worth a search for the old topic.

This has happend to me as well,

i personaly think it's down to the xm,
but i have no proof either way.

It very very rare though thankfully whatever it is.

Did you ever hear anything back about this Jolly?

I have just had it happen to me in the 17.55 at The Curragh on Sky Pilot. The horse traded well below my order but not a penny was matched :?

I placed a 1.10 lay order in a race yesterday before the off , the horse won but i was matched at 1.01 , you would think whoever asked for 1.01 would have got my 1.10 but alas they never.

Never heard a thing from them. I am sorry that you and a couple of others were caught out in a similar way. For me it helped me to realise I wasn't as crazy as some people would suggest :D

I think what's needed is for someone to record a video of it happening, so they can post the video on YouTube and embarrass Betfair...
