very late knowledgeable money? the in-running players tend to look out for/follow this...
but pre-race, if they were so sure, would they wait so long?
edit: i think i've got an idea! 'sometimes a horse that is a setup may not always get ridden to win - i was once involved in a gamble (by the owner+trainer) when the jockey (allegedly) got offered more to pull it and the gamble went down... 'not saying that this kind of thing is commonplace these days, but it does happen. maybe the big money wants to be completely sure before committing.

Maybe because they've also bet big with the bookies (at SP), and want to strike in the seconds before the off, to deny the bookies enough time to respond and lower their SP before the off.superfrank wrote:very late knowledgeable money? the in-running players tend to look out for/follow this...

And maybe sometimes, following a steam, they are hoping that, in the last minute, the traders closing their trades will cause a drift, and they'll get a better price than they would have done had they struck earlier.

Not sure I follow. Can you elaborate please?superfrank wrote: - i was once involved in a gamble (by the owner+trainer) when (deleted) was on board but he got offered more to pull it and the gamble went down...

quite simple, everything was in place and everyone got on early and kept backing but the jockey got a big bung (allegedly) to pull it... the owner tried to rip his head off afterwards!

With respect, you are accusing Mr [Deleted] of criminal conduct in a public forum. Do you have any evidence that he took a bung? That's a rhetorical question, btw - if you have any evidence, you should reveal it to the police, not prejudice a possible future trial by publishing it online!

i edited to say allegedly! he may have done absolutely nothing wrong and rode the horse to win, i'm just saying that the owner didn't see it that way.
that's the risk with gambles - people get carried away as if the horse can't lose, but they often do (it's a horse after all).
i wasn't a player in it, i was just friends with a guy who owned a share in the horse and he let me in on it (i wish he hadn't!!), and it was years ago tbf.
