I was rather hoping for unders to come in last night as I was underweight on that. After ten minutes it seemed pretty unlikely. But it just goes to show you how variable football can be.

Barcelona will submit a formal complaint to Uefa for the poor state of the pitch of San Siro. The site of Barca announced the club's seriously affected for risking the integrity of his players.
If farcelona had won 3-0 do you guys think they would have exposed a complaint to UEFA for the turf. It's typical of farcelona, crying when they do not win.
This team deserves to win every matches for the game they deliver, but for fair-play they are even worse than real madrid. It 's disgusting thing to cling to when they could easily win the game and leave the controversy behind. There was a penalty in their favor, but also chelsea had 2 penaltys in favor but not given few years ago on the semifinal vs Barcelona.

For the record, Messi has scored only once in Italy and was on penalty.

It was the same with Ronaldo in England - only one goal against the top teams in 6 years.

Against good defenders these so called 'great' players are nothing. They prey on weak defences.

IMHO there has only been three great players in my life time; Pele, Maradonna and Glen Hoddle.

I didn't know that. However, given that the guy's a midfielder, he didn't do badly in his last two seasons in England, managing 68 goals in 102 games... ;)

In that case, the Premier League and La Liga must be full to the brim with poor defenders! :)

Pele and Maradonna - No argument.

But are you seriously putting Glen Hoddle above the likes of Messi and Zinedine Zidane, even though he never won any accolades like FIFA World Player of the Year?

Am I serious? - dead right I'm serious. He was the best all round English player I've ever seen. He was even good in goal!!! Plus he was two footed. Watch this Glen Hoddle tribute

You need to open you eyes, and stop acting like sheep. I NEVER believe FIFA.

Just because England didn't know what they had, doesn't mean he wasn't a great player as I said.

Watch this Out of Control?, and tell me you know what you do everyday is conscious or unconscious.

The press just regurgitate the same rubbish over and over until everybody believes what they want you to believe. I stopped buying newspapers over 30 years ago. Work it out for yourself and you will be more aware.

You expect me to believe Messi is a great player? Next you'll be telling me we went to the moon!!!

I'm all for thinking outside the box and for challenging orthodox views - I think that much is evident from some of my posts! :)

But to dismiss Messi as a great player, but put Hoddle up there with Pele and Maradonna, is a bold position, to say the least! One should have an open mind, but not so much so that one's brain falls out... :)

Really impressed by Chelsea's display in Benfica, very professional

I suspect Spurs & Arsenal are sweating. There's every chance Chelsea could win the CL, meaning 4th place in PL would miss out on next season's CL (unless Chelsea grab 4th themselves of course)

Messi is only 25 years old. He is the top scorer of all time in Barcelona. He won 5 liga titles, 3 champions league, 5 spanish supercups, 1 copa del re, 2 uefa supercups and 2 world cup for clubs. He has 3 world cups still ahead . If he does win it, he will remembered as the best player football has ever known.
Read below a bit of his history which fascinated me.
Messi was born in Rosario, Santa Fe Province, to parents Jorge Horacio Messi, a factory steel worker, and Celia María Cuccittini, a part-time cleaner. His paternal family originates from the Italian city of Ancona, from which his ancestor, Angelo Messi, emigrated to Argentina in 1883. He has two older brothers named Rodrigo and Matías as well as a sister named María Sol. At the age of five, Messi started playing football for Grandoli, a local club coached by his father Jorge. In 1995, Messi switched to Newell's Old Boys who were based in his home city Rosario. At the age of 11, he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency. Local powerhouse River Plate showed interest in Messi's progress, but did not have enough money to pay for treatment for his condition, which cost $900 a month. Carles Rexach, the sporting director of FC Barcelona, had been made aware of his talent as Messi had relatives in Lleida, Catalonia, and Messi and his father were able to arrange a trial. Rexach, with no other paper at hand, offered Messi a contract written on a paper napkin. Barcelona offered to pay for Messi's medical bills if he was willing to move to Spain. Messi and his father moved to Barcelona where Messi enrolled in the club's youth academy.

As for best players I really enjoyed watching zinedine zidane, paul gascoigne, roberto baggio, michel platini, marco van basten etc etc. In my opinion Maradona is still the best player in football history but I also think that Messi will be taking Maradona position perhaps even without winning the world cup.

Don't forget George Best! :) Eric Cantona was also pretty good in his day... ;)

IMHO, Rooney has the potential to join the greats, but he needs more focus and discipline. If he could play every game in the same frame of mind as he did when he scored a hat trick on his United debut, he'd be up there with the greats!

I do know George Best as one of the most talented player in football history among Pele and Maradona but I never watched the guy playing. My comment was about players that I have actually enjoyed because I had the luck to watch them playing.
As for Rooney I never liked the player and I never will.

I was lucky enough to see George Best play for San Jose Earthquakes. Every time he got the ball he was booed by the home crowd Brentford FC. We slaughtered SJE 8-3.

In his day George Best was outstanding, but since he departed the scene only Glen Hoddle and Paul Gascoigne have shown exceptional talent in England. Though, England do not consider moulding a team around one player and therefore Glen was always peripheral. France however, recognised his immense skills.

Reports state that Benfica won't have a single central defender for tonight's match... With 4 of them in the squad, all of them being injured in this stage of the season is a real bonkers!

Where did you hear that?

If that's true, expect Chelsea to shorten a number of ticks over the next 5 hours
