Haven't had time to read the article but the stats are pretty damning.... only 7 penalties conceded by Man Utd at Old Trafford since before Bill Clinton left office, at least 3 years without a single one going against them!

Barcelona have Messi. United have Fergie.

Despite City's riches, they haven't been able to buy a genius who will take them to the next level...

'Among the current English Premier League teams which have played 50 or more home games since 2006, the statistics supplied by the sports data specialists Opta show that, on average, Manchester United have conceded one penalty every 12 home games.

This is more than Fulham, who have conceded roughly one penalty every 14 games at home.

So it is actually more common for a visiting team to get a penalty at Old Trafford than Craven Cottage.'

Nuff said... ;)

BTW, if Man United spend more time in their opponents' penalty areas than (say) Bolton, it is surprising that they get awarded more penalties?

You can use statistics to prove anything. Forfty percent of people know that.

Indeed, so one should be careful about using words like 'damning' in relation to statistics... ;)

a team of very expensive players, thrown together does not necessarily make them a strong squad / team.

Maybe on paper Utd and City seem equal,
but in the real world Utd have the edge :)
quite predicatble really

How can you win the PL relying on the Likes
Tevez and Balotelli, would Fergie put up with that kind of nonsense, i think not ;) .

Quite telling that United can win the EPL again with what must be their weakest team in ages. I think this is a strong indictment of having a stable managerial and team structure.

Also, if you look at the English teams disppointing performances in Europe this season, there's an argument this hasn't been the strongest PL

The lack of fight from the man city players yesterday was amazing - you'd never know they were supposed to be going for the title.

IMO most of the players are just there for the money. As much as I dislike chelsea, at least they were smart enough to keep people like Terry when Abramovic took over and had Mourino to instill some pride and fight into the players. Mancini somehow manages to be too distant from most of his players to get them to fight for him but at the same time seems to have no handle on discipline. Very few of the man city players care about the club, very few. Ballotelli even admitted that he hadn't even heard of man city before they approached him. I bet he's not the only one.

I wonder how the Sheiks were feeling? They blow nearly a billion pound on the club and all they do is park the bus when they're supposed to be desperate for 3 points to stay in the title fight! They spent most of the time feigning injury to slow the game down. At one point one of the city players went down and the already infuriated Arsenal fans were baying at their players not to kick the ball out - Arsenal launched into another attack and immediately the 'stricken' player jumps up. Joe Hart was even wasting time on goal kicks. At 0-0!!

I think part of the problem is that the Chelsea and City owners probably have enormous self-belief, and possibly think 'A business is a business. If I can run a petrochemical company successfully, I can do the same with a football club', rather than appointing a world class manager and leaving him in charge of all footballing matters...
