I wish to analyse data from in-play markets.
Can I obtain this retrospectively through Betfair, or somewhere else, or do I just need to be quick at the end of each individual race and take a note ?!...

You could set up a spreadsheet to monitor the key data you want to monitor then save this at the end of the race. Or there is http://data.betfair.com
