I cannot see a VPN being of any use unless you can open an account in a country where Betfair is allowed. As Denmark does not permit Betfair then all accounts will be banned unless I am missing something. I know the same applies to Spain, it is not Betfair that has stopped access it the authorities in Spain who have revoked the exchange licence. Betfair has reapplied and are desperate to get the exchange running again for Spain - it is a strong gambling country and revenue streams are huge.

I think Denmark is the same, their authorities revoked the exchange licence so Betfair is forbidden from accepting accounts from anyone in Denmark. If I was visiting I could use a VPS/VPN/Proxy and use Betfair but that is because I have a UK account. If I tried to use an ISP in Denmark my IP would be rejected.

As I see it you need an account based in a country where Betfair is allowed. I am unsure of the law with regards freedom of movement within the EU for Danish citizens? If you can open an account in Sweden and stay with a relative in that country then you should be okay when you return to Denmark for a visit provided you use a VPN/VPS/Proxy....if you get my meaning ;)

Betfair is perfectly legal in Denmark. The issue is that we suffer from a monopoly on horses and dogs betting/trading, due to the fact that the danish goverment thinks that the reason that the danish racetracks are seeing a steady decrease in interest is because we were allowed to place bets on UK tracks. How do we fix this? Easy - let's give Danske Spil, the "national" danish gambling company monopoly on dogs and horses and thereby make it illegal for any other company to let danes place bets on those events.

I've written the danish tax minister - since they're the ones that placed the law - and the response I got back was that it was the opinion the former minister, but they had no intensions of looking into it.

So for now if your a dane wanting to place bets on horses via anything but Danske Spil you need to have a friend from another country make an account that you can use or have residence in another country, ie. Sweden or the UK. Betfair don't give a rats ass where you connect from as far as I can tell - all they care about is obeying whatever stupid law countries come up with. If a english person came to Denmark he can still access Betfair and access horse racing just as he would from the UK. Same goes if a danish person went to England his account would still not be able to access horseracing.

So short version: We're screwed till someone realises how stupid this whole law thing and our only option is to use an account made by someone else or have a address in another country.
