Just confirmed - Relegated to Div 3
I suppose officially it's entered Div 3 being a Newco, but realistically it's a 3 division relegation
Any thoughts on the future of Scottish Football?
Rangers
Can't be good for Scottish football long term surely? Maybe, just maybe another club like Hearts could rise up without Rangers being there now and grow because of it, but I think the whole thing just smacks of other clubs wanting to have a go at Rangers.
Personally I would have thought that keeping them in the top division, albeit with a heafty points pentalty for a few years, would have been the sensible way to solve the problem.

But the people who are being punished aren't the people responsible (i.e. the directors) - it's the fans who are being hit, along with the rest of Scottish football in general arguably.
You could say that by spending beyond their means they secured an unfair advantage over other clubs, but a points deduction of say 30 points a season for 5 years would have redressed that and made sure that things were levelled out.
The ironic thing for me is that if some oil rich sheik had bought Rangers and spent the same money that was seen to give them an unfair advantage nobody would have batted an eyelid.
Relegating Rangers doesnt act as a deterrent either because the people who made the decisions get off scott free. They know they can gamble with a club's future and if it goes great then they'll be lauded, if not and the club gets into trouble then the club will suffer, not them. Still amazes me how Peter Risdale can still be going from club to club using his 'skills' while Leeds continue to suffer.
If Liverpool had not found its current owners after the 2 year desperate search then they may well have found themselves in exactly the same position as Rangers. Yet because they managed to find an owner to pay off their ridiculous debts the club gets off scott free with another 100 million injection from new owners.
IMO the whole situation in football at the moment is laughable and financial fair play really needs to be addressed across the board. I read the other day that last year total transfer spend across the globe had drop by a third in just one year. Football can't be in half the healthy state that the likes of Sky and the Premier League like to make it's 'customers' think

Plans are already underway to create an 'SPL2' which would become the second tier where the newco and other SFL1 clubs would be invited into. If this goes through fans of all teams will start boycotts. The whole thing is a farce, the people in charge care more about a terrible Tv deal than getting fans through the gates.
Fans from all SPL teams didn't renew season tickets until they found out if their club would allow newco back into the SPL. 10 clubs voted no, rangers voted yes and Kilmarnock didn't vote. Many fans see Kilmarnocks vote as a Yes and there is already talks of boycotts of all away games there, as well as Kilmarnock fans attempting a takeover to get rid of the chairman. Before the vote some clubs had sold less than 1000 season tickets, now after the vote a lot have sold more than in previous seasons. Personally (I am a Celtic fan), I will not be back to Kilmarnock or any clubs voting for an SPL2.
Re odds: I think some bookies had us at 1/50 already.
hgodden - Personally I think the game here could struggle short term, but if proper changes are made (bigger league, pyramid system) then could be better in the long term. Accepting Rangers into the SPL with sanctions was thrown out almost immediately, even Ally McCoist said this wasn't an option.

Are guys saying that Rangers will be relegated to the third division? If so, sorry for the stupid question, is not a Ranger opportunity to apply and participate in the 2nd-3rd English league?
