Anybody notice a change in behaviour on Betfair? By my estimate is that it started on the 1st July and has persisted since then.

Just interested if anybody else has noticed?

Can you be more specific? I can't say I've noticed anything fundamental

I was deliberately trying to be vague so I didn't influence any answers.

We run background tasks each day to monitor the markets and see what they are doing. Generally it shows us nothing new, but that's interesting anyhow. We noticed a change in July but that's often normal as the markets wobble around a fair bit. But this time it hasn't reverted back to what we would consider normal. We traced the change specifically to the 1st July.

We can't confirm exactly what has changed at the moment, we can only see it's impact on day to day stuff, but it's likely most people will not see it as it's very subtle. Spoke to Betfair but they swear blind nothing has changed at their end.

The mystery continues..... We will continue to dig around to see if we can come up with an answer.

my bad run (racing) started on the 3rd July (i didn't trade the 1st and did Ok on the 2nd).

previous to the 3rd July i'd had 46 consecutive winning days but in July lost money with 8 losing days (from 25 traded).

have had a break since and a slight change to strategy.

i'd be v.interested to know what's changed, but something defo did (although i did some daft stuff in July which didn't help the cause!)

Certainly noticed a change in horse racing markets, my experience is similar to SFs.

Have you noticed a change in other markets as well Peter ?

I notice Peter said Betfair rather than a specific part of Betfair.

One thing I have noticed on the general Betfair theme is that my responses all though seemingly still being the same roughly, not that I keep records, don't seem to feel like they match what I see when I place and or cancel orders.

I have discussed this with a fellow trader on here privately a few weeks back, not sure of the date, we both noticed something separately without prompting from each other and both described it like someone was always able to beat us to the click if that makes sense.

I haven't done much on Betfair recently though tbh so not a clue if it still 'feels' like this and as I don't have records or data I/we may have just imagined it and I am not sure if the other person I discussed it with still thinks it is happening.

Also this could be nothing to do with what Peter has noticed but thought I would throw it into the hat.

I have to say the comment that recently it feels like "someone was always able to beat us to the click"
certainly strikes a chord with me.
Something seems to be happening, I would second or in this case third that statement.
Something has changed, it appears to be behind the scenes, "like someones got the jump on you" of that I am sure, what it is exactly and how its working I really dont know, yet.

What about when someone beats your automated bets to the trigger?
It could be we are all getting smarter at this......

But the July 1st date is what makes me suspicious.
A similar thing happened when they bought in the cross matching bot on (from memory) Feb 17th(?) 2009(?) was it that long ago now? They did it without saying anything then.
It may be something within an existing algorithm that they do not have to disclose.

Whatever it is, something has happened.

there are a few for me. The perception there is lots of liquidity when it feels like theres nothing. Large amounts that would have previously held the market get swallowed whole then seemingly a tiny amount holds the market up at the next price point. Response times are strange. My connection says about 20ms but it feels like there is a substantial delay when I try and take money that appears to be on offer. Manipulation seems to be through the roof. Saturdays still feel a little more like they used to but midweek in the day is a real tough one. Also previous natural areas of support and resistance seem to sometimes show nothing. I see a lot of movements in the market that don't seem right......just a few!

I haven't noticed much change within the markets, but there again I don't dabble with Horse Racing when there's 30mins or less to go

However, I have an incredible story to tell! During the Olympics I sent customer support an email with an account issue. Shock Horror, somebody actually phoned me within 10mins to discuss my complaint. Even more incredible than that, they admitted their mistake and rectified the issue immediately

Not the change in behaviour that Peter was prompting, but nonetheless I was impressed

start of may was when i noticed the change which lasted about 3 week before the markets returned to the norm.
they then returned to as it is now around mid july(thou euler says 1st july) only returning to the norm the odd time.
it looks to me as 1 person/group are controlling the entire market.
who could it be???
maybe betfair but i still have my money on bomber.

I think it was racing this month. On seeing the thread I was undecided about whether a change had occured but since then we have done some research and can pin point the change. I raised this thread as I wanted to check my own sanity a bit.

in the past we had phases of
1.flashing money
2.bombing
3.spikes
4.manipulation
5.huge lays
6.wall of money

i feel the same person is behind them all, rather then phases of each we now see a random mix on a daily basis with manipulation the current fav
