Interested to see Man City lose 1-0 when priced at 1.16. OK only a friendly but they should have completely walked it.

I thought you hated friendlies Peter?

Let's hope they have a stinker on the opening day of PL too!

I don't trade them but keep an eye on pre-season friendlies. I also noted their odds were the same for this match as for their first game of the season, so took a keen interest!

It's always been suggested that Wenger is very close to the board, almost to the point where he actually is part of the board.

The reason I say that, is because sometimes I wonder if the bonus' he receives for financial prudence, outweighs his bonus' to win trophies.

He just isn't a winner anymore. If Fergie kept losing the likes of Rooney to Chelsea, or other rivals, whilst having gone years without a trophy, he'd resign, no doubt about that

Is it just me that feels like a kid at Xmas with the start of the Premiership just hours away?!

another reason why you have to admire him i guess. so many managers have big egos and think that boards should put clubs at risk to satisfy their own ambitions. not much loyalty in the game these days.

Well that quickly turned to depression (Liverpool fan).

I wonder how long Brendan Rogers will be given. Still looks a strange appointment to me. Liverpool really are not even a shade of the club they were in the 70's

They'll all be on the phone ins tonight saying sack the boss / sack the board etc etc while smug self satisfied journalists who've never kicked a ball will be enjoying laying into liverpool

LeTiss - Wenger isn't on any bonuses for transfer profits ; some Arsenal fans asked this and the club issued a denial. IMO the club is just being realistic in breaking even and not spending more than they bring in. Any more 'investing' than that and you're just gambling with the club's future. Liverpool, in a very similar dilemma to Arsenal, did that a few years ago when they spent 200 million under Benitez and nearly ended up in administration. At the moment only Man Utd can compete financially with the sugar daddy clubs and the way I see it Wenger is just being realistic (and loyal too considering all the offers he gets) about the club - he does have an economics degree after all. He said the other day that at the moment the club just needs to be patient until the financial fair play rules are brought in, will certainly be interesting to see if they are enforced properly - Man City seem scared of them but Chelsea dont seem to give a hoot

Fergie admits that United are weak in defence, so I don't understand why he's just splashed out on a new striker when United had no shortage of top class strikers already. What we need are a couple of world class defenders...

Just face it Jeff, Manure are in decline, the only thing holding them together is Fergie.
