Due to the high level of meetings abandoned during the wet summer, the British Horseracing Authority has added 10 autumn meetings to the fixture list

The six additional Friday Matinee fixtures will begin racing at 12 noon and overlap with the commencement of the afternoon cards. The trial of four additional Tuesday Twilight fixtures will take place at Wolverhampton and commence approximately ten minutes after the last afternoon race has finished.

List of fixtures

Friday Matinee Dates

21st September, Brighton (Flat)
28th September, Stratford (Jump)
5th October, Yarmouth (Flat)
12th October, Bath (Flat)
19th October, Fakenham (Jump)
26th October, Newcastle (Jump)

Tuesday Twilight Dates

16th October, Wolverhampton (AWT)

I was wondering why Brighton was off so early today, I assumed there was after race entertainment or local events that would clash later.

I hope the BHA are going to have enough good sense to schedule 10 minute gaps between those extra jumps cards and the 'normal' races that follow or all they are going to do is create clashes and overall volume spread over all the cards wont increase, it may even go down. People never seem to like betting earlier, every year when the clocks change at the start of november there's a drop in volume to begin with on the earlier races.

they seem to me (just as the evening sandbaggers seem to me) to be the horse racing equivalent of dog racings bags meetings - to benefit the bookies - not horse racing in general

It seems that way to75ne, if the BHA/Racing for Change want to get more people to go racing then it seems like they're going the wrong way about it. 9-5 workers are in work during racing and the kids are in school, leaving the retired or the unemployed.
Also, with trainers/owners boycotting races due to low prize money, I can't see many being happy with prize money been split even further than at present.

Attendance figures should tell how successful it is in time I suppose.

reckon your spot on dublin flyer.
in my opinion they would be better off using any cash available providing a better standard of racing on a sunday(if only at one coarse). improve the quality of racing over both days at the weekend, where there is higher likelihood of attracting more people with time to go, as opposed to dreary weekday matinee cards. or extra evening all weather fixtures.
