Practice Mode
I spent all last night studying automation for first time. I wrote a nice automation for an idea that I thought would work on all races today. I saved the automation in guardian and made sure it had been applied to each race etc and was looking forward to coming home and seeing what had been acheived. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! as all of it seems to have been erased. Please tell me that this is something that I have done and not the fact that you cannot do automation in practice mode?

Never thought of this. I have always written my rules in Live Bet Angel and found them available to use in Practice Mode.
One thing I always do after writing a new Rule is to take a copy to my back up folder as well.
Hopefully it wont take too long to write again.
Good luck with it.

Thanks for info. It sort of defeats the object of 50% of practice mode really doesnt it. Lets hope they do sort it. Dont really know where to go with idea now - I suppose the only answer is wait for a Saturday, write the whole think again, and dont switch of pc.drans33 wrote:Although you can save an event in Guardian, it does not save the automation rule when exiting, this is a little annoying and caught me out on a few occassions.
Hopefully this will be something updated in their newer versions.
You can save all the rules under your own named file. You can then pick those from a list and apply them to individual markets, selected markets, or get Bet Angel to apply them to all. Bet Angel does not need Guardian open or active in order to use the rules files. All these will run in the background while you do something else on Bet Angel.drans33 wrote:Although you can save an event in Guardian, it does not save the automation rule when exiting, this is a little annoying and caught me out on a few occassions.

If you shut down Bet Angel then you do not lose the rules or the markets in Guardian (if you have saved them) but Bet Angel will deliberately not remember which rules are attached to which market.
You can save the markets in Guardian but you have to apply the rules to the markets. If you didn't do this you could leave a rule in Guardian that would fire unexpectadly when you load up Bet Angel on the next occasion. As soon as you start up Bet Angel Guardian will start running. You habe to apply rules to markets when you start up, it's a safeguard.
Not sure what you are doing but you appear to be not saving any of the rules files. You can create rules, apply them to a market and let Bet Angel work away all day before returning to see what happened at the end of the day. You can do this in live or practice mode.rogerlisa wrote:Thanks for info. It sort of defeats the object of 50% of practice mode really doesnt it. Lets hope they do sort it. You can't exit Bet Angel or close down your computer because, obviously, Bet Angel has to be connected to the internet to be able to send your instructions to the exchange.
Some people use the VPS service to run Bet Angel remotely on a server that is permanently on 24/7. But that's another level up from where you are at the moment.

Have written all my automation strategies in the practice mode, after all that’s where they have to be scrutinised first. They have all worked in Live mode without doing nothing. Everything that live mode does can be put in practice mode, the only thing practice mode cant do is move a price with a vast order
I thought this, another bit of advice, DONT alter a rule while it is connected to a market otherwise it will fire the change straight away, may even put another order in above the one already inEuler wrote:it's a safeguard.drans33 wrote:Although you can save an event in Guardian, it does not save the automation rule when exiting, this is a little annoying and caught me out on a few occassions.

Euler what if Bet Angel (Guardian is active) and the pc goes into sleep mode will BA still function??Euler wrote:Not sure what you are doing but you appear to be not saving any of the rules files. Reference my earlier posts. Interesting development, when I originally wrote the automation it was on my laptop. The day I came back to find nothing I was looking on my desktop pc. When I checked the other day I was again looking at my lap top and there the rules were again. I have now looked on my pc again and the rules, surprisingly arent there. How that works I have no idea so now I have written the rules again on my desktop. Ha Ha

The rules are saving to the computer you are using, not your Betfair/Betangel account. I have a standard set of rules saved in the drafts of my email, if I go anywhere to a different computer then I can download the rules and Betangel, and use my standard rules instead of having to rewrite them and possibly make a mistake/leave something out.
