another thing I have noticed is that people come away from the course thinking they know it all and are now invincible, go in with too high stakes, and take a beating. Be careful after the course

lol u think the course is suddenly going to teach u how to make £15 a race, what sort of stakes do you think you need to make that?

i should re-phrase that consistency rather than an amount, i know from over the last 12 months its very easily acheivable to make £15 a race and not with huge stakes either.

As people who have been on the course recently will know. We actually spend the first hour or so of the day now talking about money management and trying to set expectations. That seems to have helped people leave the course with a much better mindset and approach.

What do you mean, " i know from over the last 12 months its very easily acheivable to make £15 a race"
How do you know this? You would need £200+ stakes to do this, and unless u have a huge bankroll, these are big stakes.

Yes its possible to easily win £15 in a single race, but can u average that over 1000 races?

Hi, I'm new to betfair/BA and have booked onto the course. I'm really looking forward to the BA Masterclass course and believe that investing in trading education will save a newbie like myself testing time through pointing me in the right direction.

HiJam
I did the course a few years ago. I had used Betangel for many months beforehand and thought it was the ideal time to attend. In retrospec, I think I would have gained much more by attending the course after a good 12 months if not longer.
If you are truly new to BA and trading, I would reconsider and perhaps book your self on a summer course..
Good Luck either way!
Regards
Peter

Hi Jam,

Get the most out of the course as you can. Talk to as many of the people to get contacts etc. My problem was I am not very good at taking notes, I wish I had taken more.

Goodluck and enjoy the course. I think the course is worth it and as long as you don't think its the holy grail you'll be fine. The problem with the course you think you can do anything once you've done the course, its like everything else it takes time to master.

I live about 3 hours away from the course so I stayed over at a hotel near by, I am glad I did. Not such a early start and my head was clearer.

Cheers

I do agree that your expectations are a little high here. Trading the racing markets is a very competitive business. I don't know how many people make a living from the racing markets exactly (in Adam Heathcotes blog he estimates 100+), but I do know that there are far, far more people who try it and do not make money. Just because you see the odd person making a grand or two a day doesn't mean that it is in any way easy to make even a tenth of that. It takes an extremely competitive, yet calm, mindset to trade day in day out and you have to maintain this attitude every time you trade or you will lose money (regardless of talent or knowledge.) £15 per race, or £300 per day (for those people young enough to still remember when we had 3 meeting per day ;) is a very very good haul that I believe few people can truly claim to equal or better.

Regarding the course (which I've been on) you will likely have ample time to ask questions, so maybe spend some time beforehand thinking of questions you can ask that might help shed some light on how to improve your particular trading style, as the course itself is quite general and gets you thinking about lots of different things and will probably give you lots of new ideas, but if you have already formed a certain trading style then maybe you can probe for some info as to how to get the best out of that style?

Hi Guys,

Here is my slant on the course and what I got out of it.

Firstly I think Yes it is worth it! Myself like most people was excited before I went on the course. For me I never really expected to be taught a magic trick that would be showing me how to make a mint from the markets. Unlike some people, they really do expect that! I think it was Jimmy’s post that said don’t expect to find the holy grail… He is exactly right.

I think that the reaction when completing the course by what I hear is that most dash off and think it will be easier to trade and make money. Im sure for some it is. We are all different afterall. I personally went on the course as I knew a ‘little’ about trading and wanted to go one step further see what I could generally realise about the way I was trading. I discovered that I was generally on the right track but some of the small things on the course made the big difference to the way I thought. So I would say for me that alone it made it completely worth while. I think the best thing I got from the course was that when I walked away I felt that there was so much I actually didn’t know, not totally from what I was taught, but by the way Peter showed the whole world sporting markets in general. He obviously concentrates on the races but touches on the possibilities in other markets too.

You can take it anyway you want but you if you generally have an interest in how and why things happen in the money markets of the sporting world as appose to try and use it to ‘cash yourself up’ I think you will have a longer time trading and enjoying them. Afterall People that know the markets inside out from research and experience will eat some of us for breakfast along the way to becoming one of those traders ourselves.

Good Luck and enjoy..

I think that's exactly the right attitude. One of the reasons we ask for bios before attendance is so we can qualify that people are coming on the course for the right reasons and at the right level. At the end of the day I can't wave a magic wand and turn everybody into an amazing trader overnight, but hopefully I can impart a fair amount of knowledge that I have built up over the last ten years which can point you in the right direction and guide you down a better path. As new knowledge becomes available I automatically update the course so its difficult to compare one course to another, especially over years.

When I started trading I had no advice or guidance so I had to start the hard way and learn bottom up. When people asked me to talk about the markets that's when the courses started in earnest. I've never positioned them as a get rich scheme and never will. I can impart lots of knowledge that I have learnt, but ultimately it still requires effort to put it into practice there after.
