Betfair launch virtual racing
There's no in-play betting because the camera angles don't support in-play. Am I missing something? Surely one of the advantages of virtual racing is that you can create any camera angle you want. just watched a race at Dingo Downs - I agree the commentary is a shocker!
I wonder how much this cost to implement and whether the money would have been better spent elsewhere? £4 matched on the 10:57!!!
I guess it could catch on but I don't see why a punter would bet on something that is just a coin toss really. You can't find an edge at all on the virtual stuff but you can in normal sports markets. I can see why it is appealing to Betfair as they don't need a market ops team to run it and they can put it on whenever they like with little incremental cost.
Volume needs to bump up a little before people can really start to trade it. I shudder at the comments that Betfair may look to seed the market.

I see what they are doing, trying to get somebody to fill the gaps on the lay side.. creating a dutch under round.

I think this is the most innovative thing in the market for years, perhaps even since 2000.
Betfair have brought to market a product that's based on artificial intelligence, they're not in this to be the house, and if you look closely are actually saying that they've proven that an effective handicapping strategy can work.
They're providing heaps of form data, and giving guidance with the forecast prices. The forecast prices for short odds horses will be fairly tight, but there's going to be easy value on anything farther out.
Too many people are trashing this, simply because they can't see beyond the cartoon farce in the high street. Seems to me like a few really smart people have twigged that there's are real opportunity here if you develop your own strategy.
If Betfair were looking to mint on this, then they'd have gone the Laddies / WH route.
