I will keep this brief...then again you know me by now once I get in writing mode I tend to ramble on!

I have returned from my latest medical tests and I must admit to feeling a bit yuk :(

I have been keeping an eye on Crown Choice because his handicap mark has been falling like a stone. I am not saying this horse is a certainty, I am not stupid enough to say that but if he can recapture any small amount of his old form, he would win this easily. I am sorry to say the emphasis is on IF???

You can never be certain why a horse goes off the boil, perhaps they stop liking the racing, perhaps they get overlooked by better horses in the yard, perhaps they get a niggling injury that holds them back. I don't have the benefit of knowing the real reason so I can only go on what I can measure and what I have seen. What I will add is the new yard are not stupid and they have probably been giving this horse a bit of TLC. He was with a much larger yard before so perhaps he went a bit sour and was overlooked?

Today this horse races off 73 and he's won off 91 on the Polytrack at Kempton and 94 on the turf at Goodwood so he clearly had the ability. The trip today is fine for him and the pace of the race should also suit him fine. He likes to race off the pace with horses to run at, coming late. This is a perfect racing style for Lingfield......I am just slightly worried about the recent new surface laid at Lingifeld. There hasn't been enough racing for me to judge if there is a bias anywhere.

In my book this is a 5.5-6.0 shot all day long so the current 9.0-9.2 is value in my hubmle opinion. I see he has drifted from ~5.20 out to 9.2 but that isn't of concern to me. As I said, I can only go on what I can see and measure so if someone is laying him based on "inside info" then good luck to them, it just means a better price for me.

This horse ran at Wolverhampton on 8/10/12 over an inadequate 6f and watching the race let's say the jockey was looking very busy doing nothing to help the horse. Before the racing police descend on me I am not suggesting cheating..

He was dropped 4lb and then ran over 7f again at Wolverhampton and he was running well at this more suitable distance. Sadly the pace wasn't great that day and it didn't totally suit him. Despite this he was 3rd, running on but not quite getting the gaps. The good thing about that race was Matt Chapman drooling over Chookie Avon and marking it as a horse to watch for next time. His comments meant very few saw Crown Choice's run and that is great for us. As an aside Chookie Avon was just touched off next time out by Cut Across who has now been declared a non-runner in this race.

You can try this as another in running back-to-lay trade as I feel this horse will come into the straight running well so the price should shorten considerably. He is not a certainty but at 9.0 on Betfair he is overpriced.

Good luck if you play, small stakes, enjoy and feel free to comment.

Be interesting to know why it has drifted so much? Thankfully horses can't count beyond 4 so hopefully it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I would not be too worried about the massive drift...Last night I had a horse on my selection ( beat the bell ) which drifted impressively in only 20-30 seconds..It went from 4.0 to above 6.0 but won the race and left other horses quite behind...
It's a shame I picked crown choice too early..I missed the 11.00 odds...but still happy for the 8.2 I can now close in profit at 6.6 and leave half of the green in play...
good call again JG even if the horse won't win..

Well I did snap up a fair bit of money between 9.60-11.0 which was a bit like finding money on the floor! It is now back down to 6.4 and I will be perfectly honest and say I have traded out.

I pick up a nice sum if it loses and a very nice sum if he wins!

Well I know it may not be Chart of the Day but it certainly goes close?

great post JG - 'always makes a race (and pre-race) more interesting when you have an opinion.

the horse looks like he doesn't put it all in.

Well you pay your money and you take your chance. Thankfully the crazy drift to ~11.0 meant I didn't have to take a chance, I could trade out and enjoy the race.

I'm not a great one for moaning at jockeys but I have to say that was not Martin Lane's finest ride. He thought he was on Dancing Brave and gave him far too much to do. he did trade at 4.0 in running which wasn't too bad.

Ho hum...this horse will be winning soon!

Possibly Frank. I think he just likes to run at horses at the finish but today the jockey gave him too much to do IMHO.

If I am not wrong the winner was the steamer of the race..from 30/1 to 7.0 preoff...
However crown choice if ridden without hesitation from the Jockey could really go for the win...

I did not copy what JG said about the jockey..I think we were writing at the same time...

Cracking post as usual JG
I'm on my holidays at the moment and tried to trade this from my iPhone...
I put a cheeky 100 in at 11.5 as we left the room and intended closing it out around 8.5
It reached 11s I think and unfortunately I missed it this time..close
there were some large >1.5K lays going in towards the start of the race so some of you must have made a few bob on this one - well done if you did!
keep em coming JG and hope you're felling better mate
regards
Peter
