Just a quick question to all you Bet Angel users in the UK - do you use a dongle and if so what refresh rates do you normally get when you connect?

All replies appreciated.

All the best,

Mark

I use a vodafone HSDPA modem and it works really well. I tend to only use it as a backup but I have traded from it many times. If you use the VPS your bandwidth usage will drop dramatically making this quite a viable platform to trade from.

Hi There

I have a "3" mobile dongle which is OK but it depends where you are; I live in the Outer Rim Territories of North East Wales and it's patchy for conncetion and speed. Does not work at home as there is no coverage but is usable in work or if out n about. I may try a different provider but it is much of a muchness up here. Our proper broardband is Kack as well if you are in the villages. In space no one likes ice scream!!!!

Cheers

Thanks both.

Considering getting a dongle in case my internet connection starts slowing so your feedback has been very helpful.

On VPS now though so hopefully I won't need it!

Vodaphone do a PAYG option which I'm considering over the monthly contract. If I use it to only close out in an emergency I think it would work out cheaper. They do say that the 1gb rolls over each month but not for how long. If it does last 3 months for example we're only talking £5 a month - not bad at all. Plus the £39 one off payment its about £99 a year for 333mbs a month.

The alternative is £15 a month with no one off payment, works out to £180 a year for 3GBs a month,

My question is would 333mbs a month be enough to use only for closing out say roughly 4 times a month (probably less)? I'm guessing it is plenty but I'm not basing this on any actual facts.

What do you guys think? Out of interest does anyone have any experience with the PAYG broadband dongle option?

Don't forget there are heaps of cash back offers around with the phone companies via cash back sites such as quidco which can reduce the monthly cost massively.

Here are the Vodafone ones via Quidco: http://www.quidco.com/vodafone/

There are several cashback sites around and are well worth using, you can save hundreds each year using them. There was a recent one which made Virgin TV 12months for the price of 2 months! It is now only £65 off but still well worth it if you are looking to get racing pictures for example and don't currently have Virgin.

Also after you have your mobile broadband for the initial contract period phone them up to see what deal they will do you to keep you. I got mine reduced to just under half price and a the new version of the dongle.

Also there is currently an ad running which gives a free laptop when you sign up for some dongle package - worth a look and then if you don't need the laptop just sell it on ebay to pay for the internet package - simples!

I ocassionally use my Three dongle over here in Dublin but I wouldn't be using it for any swing trades :) Coverage and speed can be quite erratic.

Thanks guys for the replies. The Virgin media discount does look good, looks like it will expite in December, hopefully they'll have something similar available in April when I intend to get the pictures sorted.

The quidco site looks quite handy indeed, cheers Andy :D

Just got an email saying that Virgin are doing some new cash back offers. You can now get £130 cash back on Virgin Cable so if you just get the basic package which includes At The Races it will work out less than 2 months for the price of 12! Also it looks like they are doing an offer where the first 2 months are free. So assuming you can combine both which I think you can (you should check though) it could turn out you actually get paid to have Virgin TV!

It can also be used with Broadband and phones. Looks like £60 for mobile broadband.

Here are the links:

Oh and while you are at it get yourself a free trial to Lovefilm for 2 weeks seeing as there will be no racing at this rate for the next 2 weeks and get paid £18 for it! Just cancel after the free trial.

For anyone who is thinking of getting Virgin they are currently doing a really good deal of £165 cash back meaning you can get Virgin for just £2.08 a month - only problem is the offer ends today, so you best hurry
