My knowledge about legislative is a bit dry so I failed to understand how Beftfair operated in Greece all this while without a permit?

What does this mean for traders in Greece and Germany? Are they going to trade using accounts from friends/relatives in UK?

Would this also imply that liquidity on Betdaq should begin to pick up exponentially?

13 mil in revenue for BF from Greece is nothing to sneeze at. This source of potential revenue now remains for Betdaq to claim if they wish.

By the way, does Betdaq have a permit to operate in Greece and Germany or are they liable to run into the same issues?

If Betdaq can do it then why not Betair ???

don't fully understand wtf is going on tbh,
but do Betfair really think they are so important that they should receive preferential treatment.

this and decisions like this is going to cost them millions is it not :? .

In Italy you can subscribe to Betdaq but not with Betfair at the moment. Old users did not lose their account though. They are telling us not to subscribe to Betdaq because is illegal but in fact there is nothing illegal as we are protected by an european treaty. If they cought us and take us to court they will lose the case and we can also claim for compensation. As for Betfair, they just don't want to take any problems with the italian corrupted authorities, they block every subscription from Italy since 2009....

I am not sure if you can bet from Germany too but there are evidences from court cases all over europe that people supposed to be allowed to use Betfair or Betdaq if those have gained licenses within the european territory. Therefore those lincesed european companys should been given the OK to operate in all european territoty as much as the local gambling companys ( like national lotterys etc) So if I was a German user and like to take the state to court for not letting me use Betfair, I will have 100% chance to win.
In recent years there have been several precedents in favor of European users, but until now Betfair never made use of this advantage. Perhaps they believe that The European community will not last long time and want to stay on good terms with the local authorities or looked at things we do not know..
Have a read on this Link...If I am not wrong article 43( now 49) 46 and 59 will give you some insight...

from reading the guardian report that someone posted in another thread it sounds like it is betfairs choice to pull out of greece rather than not being allowed. Maybe they know about some up coming changes in taxes or legislation that wouldnt make it viable for them to be there? just a thought.

We have been given a Q&A by Betfair and the key points appear to be: -

What products are affected?

All products are affected. Access from Greek IP addresses will be blocked on Monday 3rd December.

What if I am no longer in Greece but I have an account with you?

If you are not in Greece our systems should not block you and you should be able to use your account in the usual way.
