Just been reading about Betfair's Refer and Earn scheme.

On the face of it, if I recommend a friend and he places a £25 bet, Betfair will credit him with an additional £25 and me with £25. It seems like a risk-free proposition; money for old rope!

Is there a catch?

Not sure I follow...

Is it like these casino sites, where you only get to withdrawn the money you've been credited with when you turn it over so many times? If so, is there anything to stop him finding flat markets, offering money to the queue, and then immediately 'zeroing up' when the money is taken?

There would always be a hard link between your account and your friends..I'd prefer to keep them completely separate in every way

Jeff, I dont think there is a catch. You are doing the marketing for them so i guess they see a 25 pound commission cheaper than paying a salary for someone going out and attracting new customers.

I referred a friend a few years ago. And nobody got anything. Guess what was the reason? It is the fact that my first deposit on bf was not with a debit/credit card. They said I can not participate to the scheme due to that. Although, later I linked a few cards with them they refused to credit me anyway. Even now if I bring somebody to bf my referral code will not work. Isn't that a bit stupid?

With the way BF started to link accounts for the purpose of PC, I'd avoid any scheme of this nature

I've done the same and neither of us got a penny for some reason or other. Never bothered with it since especially after hearing stories of people being linked for PC.

I'm sure there are people out there making worthwhile amounts though just not my cup of tea.
