Alternative to the in-play delay (for football)

Football, Soccer - whatever you call it. It is the beautiful game.

i generally don't get involved with in-play football - because others have an obvious edge over me with faster pictures (or those at the games) and the in-play delay is too long to make the risk/reward of betting blind worth it in the long run.

how about this for an alternative:
- have no in-play delay
- when a goal is scored (or sending off, penalty etc.) the market is suspended and the market "rolled back" to the point when the incident occurred.
- the market is then re-opened.

all the exchange needs to do is run the rollback program for the markets linked to the match (entering the incident time as a parameter).

i think it would increase volume, level the playing field for all and open up loads of new trading strategies.

what does everyone else think - a good idea or a dumbass one?!

It's a good idea in theory but in reality it would take too long i think,
Not sure how easy is it to get this info accurately and most importantly quickly for all the In play games they have.

A Similar thing happens when they forget to turn a Horse race inplay, they roll it back to the off time and void the rest, but it takes ages to sort sometimes
i guess we are talking tenth's of a second accuracy.

yeah it would take a bit of work to get the time rule sorted fairly, but there's no reason the rollback itself couldn't be executed very quickly - it would only take a few seconds to run (essentially it would void all bets placed after the incident time, then re-open the match markets).

You could have no delay and then just void everything the 30 seconds before a goal or a sending off i suppose.

but it might be a bit annoying if youve had a bet matched just before they score and then it's voided

now you're being silly!!

getting an accurate incident time can't be too difficult.

You would just apply the delay retrospectively in my version :D ,
there is no need for one if nothing happens during the period the bet was placed.

but yes im sure you can get the info easy enough for your version to the nearest second
if that's all that was needed.
