It's always been important to me that my trading on BF is business. Whilst I've enjoyed the 2years+ of developing my systems (it's what I do instead of having a life), it really is just about money and that detachment is (for me) a good thing. But every now and then, I'll watch a race I've bet on. And wow - what a great feeling when I get a nice surprise.

So, I'd like to apologise to all those within a 50 mile radius who had their evenings disturbed by a lunatic in Hampshire yelling 'Yeeeees' as Jimmy Elder romped home at Kempton.

And so the slightly more serious question I'd be interested in is - do the full-time traders on here sometimes get as enthusiastic and carried away as someone by the winning line at a course, or is it just always 'business' ?

I still get excited by a big winner, just not as much as I used too!

At first I used to celebrate every win over £100 with a bout of swearing and a lap of honour around my "office" - FFS it's the back bedroom:)

Have you see the Betfair ad where he "cashes out" on the Man U v Everton match? Why he didn't take 1.01 at 3-0, 4-0 pr 3-1 God knows. But he waited until 4-3 and (this is sad , I worked it out. He took 1.14) and made £6.08, He does a right sly fist pump. He did it sly cos be way embarrassed he put a tenner on an odds on shot.

Over the years I became used to winning so it took more and more to get really excited. Here is my "celebrations " table

£100 - wry smile - knowing I have to give half of it back to Betfair
£200 - The same reaction I used to give for £100, As thats all I have really won (after giving £100 back to Betfair) :)
£500 - I have a little video clip from you tube i play in celebration
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iqwx9i704g
£5000 -I have a special outfit I put on, my Mrs knows she's "getting it"

When Voler la Vedette wins the Christmas Hurdle and I'm 64K up - I'm running down the street in my trading workwear - Underpants with piss stains on and a pair of my wifes knickers over my head. singing "We are the Champions" I get arrested for gross public indecency and Betfair steal the money back.

I'm calmer now :) Que Sera Sera

When I won 35K in the lottery last year, a sense of total calm and contentment flowed over me. A wicked grin gradually spread across my whole face, as a warm dollop of pleasure hit my brain stem. I was so hyped I was not able to sleep.

#winning in part feels so good because you feel you've 'beaten the system', you feel you're special in some way.

Two vids to play when you win:

LoL :P

Very funny - and glad I'm not the only one then :)

Let's hope we all have reason to behave in peculiar ways over the next coming year!

My emotions are out of kilter.

Given a win or loss of equal amount, the loss will evoke a greater reaction.

After being a user of this site for about a year now and having no history of trading or gambling prior to this I am on a bit of a crusade myself to make it work, as I love it so much. Whilst trading on anything I feel butterflies in my belly, temperatures up, hands are shaking slightly and the family just hate me! and you say you are out of kilter. When I lose I now brush it off unless its because I made a mistake (which happens a lot)in which case I take myself to an area away from any one, have a ciggie and then twat myself in the head! (alright I dont do the last bit)If its just a trade that didnt happen I go through the same process but this time I think how could I have done things differently to protect myself. I have to say though when something goes right (as I have predicted) there is nothing like the feeling I get. It is almost semi erectional! Maybe its just that I am hoping that this trading lark can someday take me away from my current occupation I dont know!

Roger

I think you will have arrived as a trader when none of the above happens. Doing it full time is a job. Its paying the bills, mortage, kids needs etc etc.

In my previous life (before becoming a full time financial trader and improving sports trader) I never felt bad when things went wrong and never felt "erectional" when things went right. Why? Coz its a job.

A friend of mine who has gambled for a living for 25 years said to me during my early days trading (before I left my job) "Its ok to lose. You may be losing more times than you win but if you choose well, the stakes are right and exit strategy in place you will make a posative return". Bugger me if he wasnt spot on.
