Yes of cause he does, a perfectly natural reaction too,
Try it for yourself on a lamp post or something :D ,
as you make the initial contact your knee will bend and absorb some of the impact, it will then straighten out again as the momentum carries you around and past the post whilst on your way down to the ground. The knee is hinged only one way and the natural thing for it to do whilst being rotated in that direction is for it to straighten out.

Here's an analogy.

Whilst driving in an area with a 30 mph speed limit, I get caught by a Gatso speed camera doing 35. It might be that I would have been perfectly safe doing 40 in light of the prevailing driving conditions, and it was therefore a victimless crime that I didn't deserve to be punished for. However, I could be criticized for not being sufficiently aware of my surroundings to notice the camera and slow down. Similarly, as Keane indicated, Nani could have avoided giving the ref an opportunity to book him.

I'm pleased to say that the above is an entirely hypothetical example! ;)

BTW, I also think Roy Keane may have a point about it being dangerous play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FHu876CEN4

That’s a analogy where rules are enforced strictly with zero tolerance .

This is clearly not the case in football.
A more appropriate analogy would be that you were allowed to drive 100mph in a 30mph zone without risking punishment unless you ran someone over,
it would then become a crime.

I think personally think Roy Keane embarrassed himself last night.

I'm a little surprised at that Juve drift, it seemed pretty obvious that Juve would make a few changes and as said it doesn't make them massively weaker.

Whether the rules are enforced with zero tolerance or the magistrate is allowed to use their discretion, the fact remains that, if I end up with a fine, I could not escape criticism for not noticing the speed camera.

We live in a society with a blame culture, where people are reluctant to take personal responsibility. It's far easier to blame others than to hold your hands up and say 'I made a mistake'.

I don't get this...

I disagree. Here's an alternative perspective you might want to consider: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... undit.html

So much of football punditry these days involves experts either agreeing with each other or politely agreeing to disagree after making a few bland comments, without too much discussion. By contrast, Roy Keane engaged his fellow pundits in spirited debate and was winning to put forward an unpopular position. How often to you see Hansen or Lawro doing that?

So that begs the question as to why half the Juventus team were not sent off in the first leg at Parkhead?

freddy - i agree roy keane is becoming like a bad referee, wants the attention for himself and gets it by being outrageous!!!
its not the first time hes talked total rubbish as a pundit, just for the sake of disagreeing with everyone.....a sad decline...

A secondary lunge indeed

Imagine Nani’s leg like a spring, once it was compressed against his chest (see picture)
The energy had Nowhere to go but back outwards against Arbeloa’s body.

Just like in a car crash or any other impact for that matter
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOOMR-fTBWg
see the way the car recoils back off the wall after the initial energy of impact is absorbed.

It’s Physics man, simple Physics, every action has an equal and opposite reaction and all that stuff ;) .

From the Telegraph article for those that didn't read it:
"Keane glared at Chiles as if he had just suggested they film a Harlem Shake."
I laughed at that one, good writing I thought, strange for the Telegraph.
I missed tonights football, work event after annual medical. Found out I should have been Hepatitis B vaccinated 12 years ago because I'm part of an emergency response team.
Nurse: So what if there's an accident and you get someones blood on you?
Me: Well I'd usually wipe it off, I sure as f**k wouldn't lick it off or rub it into open cuts!

Well, back to the thread, I didn't see much hope at all for the Celts, the away form in Europe is beyond brutal. The league form is a one horse race they're winning at about 60% of their ability if even that.

With UK hopes relying on Arsenal to get through to the next round to keep tabloid interest alive, lets all pray they do.

Otherwise it's gonna be daily updates on what team Gareth Bale starts next season with, the gender of Kate Middletons kid, Jordan getting married again, Kerry Katona getting married again, some random MP claiming expenses for cleaning his trout pond, another 60 something year old tv star kiddy fiddling, Rolling Stones doing a final final final final tour, a dog that had 13 pups....etc
God I f**king hate tabloids, but when I finish reading the Racing Post in the work canteen there's nothing else to read.

So do it for us Arsenal, the guys who hate the tabloids!

Oh you said that if you did 35mph in a 30mph zone you would only have yourself to blame, i agree.
But Im saying Football’s not like that, it's more like my example, If this was always a straight red card then yes, you wouldn't do it, but it’s clearly not, so not sure how you can blame him really. I wonder what Mr Keane would have said if Nanni had bottled it and just handed Real possession , i also wonder what he thought of Peter Crouch incident at the Weekend.

I Think he was bang on with his comments, if you’re a Muppet and choose to apply zero common sense to a given situation he was right.

I think everyone know’s the ref can by the rules send you off,
but it’s usually reserved for when there is at least some intent.
Whether the rules state it or not there is clearly supposed to be some common sense applied or we would be giving 10 pens a game and ending up with 5 a side  .

I have already bet in this forum that by next wednesday there won't be anymore British teams in the Champions league. Arsenal needed a miracle to qualify so I am very close to claim I was right!
I am going to make an other prediction:
by next thursday Chelsea ( like last year) will be the only British team left in an european competition!!

Ah, the old schoolyard trick of pretending to agree with someone, only to disagree with them...

As you've descended into name calling, I'm out! :)
