As most of you know, I was never a big fan of Big Mac or Thommo so to me it is a bonus they have both departed.

However, I think the coverage from C4 is now a total farce. Let's face it, racing is all about opinions and when I write a post on here I never expect to be 100% correct and always welcome other members adding their point of view. That is what makes it so enjoyable and I hope it will always be that way.

On C4 you have Jim McGrath sat there spouting endless guff with his eyes closed. My dear old Mum always told me never trust a person who talks to you with their eyes closed! Despite my aversion to his eyes being closed he rarely offers anything of great informative value - GET OFF THE FENCE MAN!!

Graham Cunningham who is actually a bloody nice bloke looks totally out of his depth. He doesn't know where to look and he's a bit like a Muppet swinging around on his chair looking at the camera one second and his colleague the next. He also doesn't offer that much pre-event but he is a bloody genius after the event.

Okay so that's my opinion and I appreciate my point of view could be wrong but despite that there is one thing that is never in doubt. There is no difference of opinion - they all blow warm air up each other's orifices and just concur with each other. What's the point in that? We need Roy Keane in there to throw in a different point of view.

I cannot see any improvement since the change. I love Claire Balding but she is also the same and just concurs with the others. It's all too nicely nicely for me...a bit sickly you could say.

What do you think?

I find most commentators and 'experts' on horse racing must've come from the school of horsocope writing as they tend to be general and make comments covering every base lest they make fool of themselves. I think their job should be to objective assess their past performance and how they're likely to perform in the current race rather than them having any extra special ability to predict the result of the race.

On the plus side Ted Walsh is really funny, and I like Mick fitzgerald because he has done it all and seen it all. the others Hmm. There was a an unsmiling guy on the other night on ATR chelt preview and He came across as a pro punter and did'nt sit on the fence, and actually said to he was laying "my tent" I did'nt catch his name, but think he would liven up channel 4 no end.
I get the impression that the majority of these pundits are 50 pence e/w backers. :|

Groovy

Yes, I also like Mick Fitzgerald but they don't allow him to use his main skills i.e. race riding, horse watching etc. He is the first to admit he knows nothing about punting and yet they try and use him in that role. I watched him one day on ATR and he didn't even know about place odds in betting. I wouldn't expect him to know that, I'd be asking him to talk about the look of a horse, how he rides, etc.

Ted Walsh is brilliant, I love him because he speaks his mind and says it as he sees it. We need to remember he was "sidelined" by C4 because he was a bit too controversial on a few occasions. One was when a "fat yoke with a beer belly who'd never done a stroke in his life" was having a go at a jockey for a supposed bad ride. Those were close to Ted's words. The other big one was when he argued with Eyes Closed McGrath about Big Buck's whom he called a "failure" because he couldn't jump a fence but didn't have the speed to win a Champion Hurdle. It was controversial but it was true. The Stayers was never a championship race in most people's eyes, it was a race for cast offs without a trip. I am not personally decrying Big Buck's achievements but basically Ted's assessment is correct.

Finally, I dislike Big Mac's attitude on TV, I do not dislike him per se. I therefore wish him a speedy recovery.
