Martin O'Neill - Sunderland

Football, Soccer - whatever you call it. It is the beautiful game.

Always seen him as a good manager, but he is having a mare at Sunderland this year.

IMHO he is not anywhere near as good as people think he is, he is tactically naive and one of the most stubborn managers you will ever come across.

As a Villa fan I can remember there were many times when a change in tactics would have either protected a lead or created one, he very rarely changed things until it was too late.

He has built a Sunderland squad of very average players and will no doubt be crying out for loads of money at Xmas to spend on more average players in January, if he doesn't get it then he will probably throw his toys out of the pram as he did at Villa.

That is if he is still there at Xmas as he could well be the next one checking in at Jobcentre Plus :D

Maybe so, but with Villa he was always finishing in the top 6. I'm sure all Villa fans would admit, those days seem a long way away now!

Le Tiss

He may have finshed in the top six at Villa but at what cost?
Anyone can be moderatly sucesful if they thow a stupid ammount of money at it.

There are still players at Villa on massive contracts signed by MON.

I would love 1% of the cash he has wasted.

Look at the game yesterday ...

Sunderland played off the park by WBA

Spendings in last 3 TF windows ..Sun 50M WBA 10M

Im not saying MON spent it all but he certainly helped.

He is a Muppet of the higest order, and I am told a very rude one.

A few points.
Section 1 points 1-20
1. Yes Villa were a top 6 side when Mon was manager, yes he built the side up with some very good signings. Since he left Villa have been nowhere near the top 6, despite spending large amounts on Bent, and others.
2. Leicester were a top half premiership club, when he managed them, he left they were relegated the following season, and have been nowhere near the prem since.
3. Sunderland were in freefall, last season, he kept them up, and if he leaves now, they will most likely go down.
4. Virtually every club in Britain would sign him as manager, including the uk's national teams, and the top 6 in the prem some of whom have approached him previously, and been turned down before now.
5. He was as a player managed by Brian Clough for a crucial early years period of time, and uses some of his motivational methods, hence the rude tag. At least hes honest and direct and wears his heart on his sleeve, unlike many managers.
6-20 I cant be bothered to type, (although I do have them) anyone wanting to be rid of him must be the more muppet like, because he will only be out of work as long as he wants to be.
Section 2... Point 1
I have won considerable amounts of cash punting on MON inspired teams, especially when he is new at a club, and at any time of his tenure a value researched and judged lay of the opposition is very rewarding.

When he is pushed or walks from Sunderland, the end result will be same, so Sunderland fans should be careful what they wish for. They will join the Villa fans/leicester fans looking back to the good old days, and we MON followers who are punters will still be making money with him, when he is somewhere else.

Martin has been sacked!

He has left Sunderland in a worse position than when he took charge.
Sixteen wins from 55 games and seven of those came in his first ten.
Very poor record for the last 45 games has got him the push.
I get the strong feeling he is well past his sell by date.

I cant see many people rushing to give him a job after this balls up, but if they do I suggest they keep the contract to about a dozen games!

Another one bites the dust, are you sure?
i liked him at leicester, celtic, and villa, he did good jobs their, and made me money, but he has been poor at sunderland this season.
wrong time to sack a manager though, unless you have a ready made appointment.
i guess thir relegation odds will be dropping..

Not sure Di Canio is a better replacement?

David Milliband has resigned because of the Di Canio appointment

Yes a left field appointment which with the speed it has been completed must surely have been on the burner before Sunderland kicked off on Saturday.
It will be very interesting to see how he gets on in the final seven games of the season.
At the very least his antics will be entertaining!!

He was given a lot of money at Swindon so he hasn't proved he is a genuis just yet. Threw his toys out the pram when they wouldn't give him more.
