A recent tweet from Nassim N. Taleb:
I am personally boycotting Nestlé and ALL its products http://bit.ly/12TwKLE. Everything they own.
Another tweet:
Nestlé is an evil firm that wants to privatize water. Let's all boycott it and all its subs. let the mkt bankrupt it http://alturl.com/h7vtj
We know water's not free, we all get periodic water bills, even for "free water" in public parks.
I admit the CEO has it right in saying his job is to maximize the profitability of the business. Every shareholder wants to see their 'per-share' value increase, BUT - at what cost?
Social costs are usually created when a company patents commodities free available in nature. Take the case of Monsanto's roundup ready products. These are costs that go beyond any monetary compensation. Something a business will not see in it's books.
If Nestle patent drinking water, what's next - Oxygen?
